Director's Message
Dear Early Childhood Families,
Welcome to our 2024-2025 school year! On behalf of the Hoboken Public Schools and our preschool providers, HOPES and Mile Square, I am excited to welcome you and your family back to school. To our returning Pre-K 4 families, welcome back! To all of our new Pre-K 3 families, we are thrilled to welcome you into our Pre-K family. There is nothing quite like our Hoboken Pre-K program and I am so happy that you are a part of it!
The first few days were filled with laughter, center play, a few tears, and most importantly fun. I love hearing all the children back in the buildings and the sounds of clean up songs, fingerplays, giggles, stories being read, and conversations being had. Throughout the Preschool journey, we must always remember that we are partners in this. As partners, it’s important to know that your child's safety and success is a shared responsibility. We will continue to focus on providing our youngest learners with the consistent, high-quality instruction that Hoboken families have come to expect and deserve.
If you see me around during arrival, dismissal, or on my way to visit a site, please say hello. I look forward to meeting and talking with each and every one of you.
I am excited to partner with each and every one of you to ensure all children in our program are celebrated and supported. Together, we will ensure that we maintain our tradition of excellence and community. Here is to a fantastic 2024-2025 school year!
Kind regards,
Kimberly Mara
Director of Early Childhood
A Special Message from Director Mara
Good Afternoon Pre-K Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful first few days of school. I wanted to remind all of our Pre-K families about some important drop off and pick up procedures.
When you come to your Pre-K site in the morning, please do not double park your cars or block the crosswalks. We are experiencing many delays on our already busy streets due to double parked vehicles. Emergency vehicles need to be able to get through any of the city streets at any time an emergency comes up.
Also, please be mindful of where you are standing. It is a safety concern to have anyone standing in the street during drop off and pick up times. The sidewalks are there for pedestrian traffic and we want all of our families to be safe.
When bringing your strollers, please be aware of where you place them. Do not keep them in the middle of the sidewalk so it is blocking the way for the many pedestrians who use them to walk to work, school, or the train. Please do your best to keep them out of the street and on the outside of the sidewalks for ease of usage.
Keeping all of these things in mind will help make our pick up and drop offs easier and safer for our families and the community. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to a wonderful 2024-2025 school year.
Kind regards,
Ms. Kimberly Mara
Director of Early Childhood
Meet Our Staff
Communication
Nurses Nook
The Hoboken Public School District is not a peanut/nut free district. However we do address all allergies and the ECE program will work with the program nurse and Family Advocates regarding food allergies and other medical needs. We are working closely with our food service provider Chartwells regarding food sensitivity matters.
If your child has a food sensitivity, please communicate that to your child's family advocate.
Change is HARD, you go first
If your child is experiencing challenges as they transition into a new school year, our ECE team has created a doc for you.
Director Mara's Book of the Week
Welcome Back to school! I am so excited for another year of sharing my favorite books with all of you.
In this weeks book, we are introduced to "All Are Welcome Here" by Alexandra Penfold and Suzanne Kaufman. Starting a new school year in a new classroom is so exciting. You get to meet new classmates who may like the same things as you or something different. How can you make a new classmate feel welcome? What did you do these past two days in school to help a classmate who was feeling sad? I hope everyone enjoyed their first two days of school with their new teachers and classmates!
