Families:
We are in our final week of the 23/24 school year! Thank you for welcoming me into your community, I've had in incredible journey because you have amazing children and your support doesn't go unnoticed! I'm looking forward to launching Mears into next year as transform our campus into a 6-8 fully teamed Middle School! Just a few reminders regarding our end of the year events, don't forget tomorrow, Monday, May 20, we will clean out lockers and hand out yearbooks. Students should bring only their string bag to carry around their personal items and lunches for these last 3 days of school.
For our 8th graders, Wednesday, May 22, will be our 8th Grade Bash. The Mears PTSA is looking for volunteers to make this event successful, please reach out to them if you are able to help and volunteer. In addition, we will host our annual spirit olympics in the gymnasium to bring this year to healthy and positive close for all Mears students.

Wow! Are these kids ready for high school! We have seen growth in students in so many different areas this year: physically, socially, and academically. Thank you so much for sharing your students with us this year.

Summer Learning
Reminder that if you are interested in an online Health or Geography class for credit (rising 9th grade only), you must request registration through Mrs. Harrison or Mrs. Hallis.
King Tech Session One is now full and waitlisted, however, you can get on the list for session two using the link below! Lots of great opportunities!
2024 Middle School Summer Career Exploration
The Career Exploration Summer School Program is designed to provide 8th grade students the opportunity to explore up to 6 different career fields of interest. Students will participate in career and education planning while attending hands-on career exploration classes, and can opt for a .5 elective high school credit.
Explore up to six different career fields in the following options:
- Arts, A/V & Communication
- Business Management
- Architecture & Construction
- Cosmetology
- Culinary
- Health Science
- Human & Community Service
- Information Technology & Computer Science
- Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM)
Registration Requirements:
Students must be out-going 8th grader / incoming 9th graders currently enrolled in an ASD school for the 2023-24 school year with the intent of coming back in Fall 2024.
Students must attend the full 2 weeks to be eligible.
Students must abide by all school district policies.Session Dates:
Session 1 - CURRENTLY FULL; waitlist option available: May 28 - June 7, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm (no class on Monday, May 27)
Session 2: June 10 - June 21, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm (no class on Wednesday, June 19)
Shelf-stable breakfast available on request, and lunch will be provided.
Reading Opportunities
Sora is the platform that ASD uses to offer electronic books and audiobooks. It is available all summer for students to get reading material. Directions for accessing Sora.

MS ASD Fall Sport Updates - 2024
With the change of school start times, as well as the addition of 6th grade to Middle Schools, we wanted to share information regarding Anchorage School District Fall Sports.

First Practice anticipated August 19
Jamboree competitions August 24 & 31
First Competition September 7
Competitions Saturdays in September
Some weeknight competitions, including Mulcahy Stadium under the lights
First Practice August 19 (4:15 p.m.-5:45 p.m.)
First Competition September 4
Following weeks, races Mondays and Wednesdays (5 schools each)
Races begin 6 p.m., with the exception of Championships

Games begin 6 p.m. on weeknights, varies on Saturdays
Procedures
Parent Pick-Up & Drop Off
The North Parking lot is used for Visitor Parking (15 minutes), Handicap Parking, and is our Staff Parking Lot. Please do not use this entrance and lot to drop off/pick-up your kids at the beginning and end of day. Please utilize the parent drop off/pick-up loop located on the east side of the building. Thank you!
No Door Dash
We do not accept, Door Dash/Uber Eats/ETC, food deliveries for students before, during, nor after school. We will NOT accept deliveries of any kind. We have a school meal program offering balanced meal choices daily. In addition, the Black Cat Cafe offers smart snacks daily for purchase.
Morning Detention
Detentions are 7:15 am-7:45 am, in Room 106, Tuesday-Friday. Please drop-off your student at the North Entrance to access the building. Security staff will greet your student and escort them to Room 106. Please contact AP Svendsen with any questions.
Lunch Detention
Lunch Detentions are held daily during each lunch wave in Room 106. Students are expected to check-in with the supervisor at the beginning of lunch. Students who need to purchase food from the cafeteria will be issued a fast pass to procure their food and return to Room 106 to serve the assigned lunch detention.
