Hadley 8th Grade Promotion
Last Friday evening, District 41 celebrated the promotion of the Hadley Junior High 8th grade class in a ceremony that took place at Glenbard West High School. This year over 406 8th graders received a certificate and are now moving on to high school. Within the 8th grade class, 78 percent were involved in a club, sport or activity at Hadley and 125 8th graders participated in either orchestra, band or choir. They also had a great time during their 8th grade trip to The Forge Adventure Park in Lemont. It was a huge success! Thank you to all staff, families and community partners for supporting our students from preschool through middle school!
Ivy League Hoops Star Visits Forest Glen
During the last week of school, Forest Glen students welcomed a special visitor. Caden Pierce is the 2023-24 Ivy League Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and led Princeton to the Ivy League title. He was also the 2022-23 Ivy League Rookie of the Year. Pierce visited and connected with Forest Glen 4th graders, answered questions and shared his story. Caden is a 2022 graduate of Glenbard West, attended Hadley Junior High and was a Ben Franklin Bear. Thank you Caden for giving back to our District 41 community!
Therapy Dogs Visit Hadley
It was a paw-fect day at Hadley Junior High on one of the last days of school. Following the stress management unit in 7th grade health class, students were able to unwind by spending time with therapy dogs. The students learned that petting dogs can release oxytocin, a neurotransmitter that creates a sense of happiness, calm, and connection. A special thanks to the therapy dog handlers for sharing their amazing dogs with Hadley students and staff!
Celebrating Creativity: A Collaborative Mural Masterpiece
The lower level of Hadley Junior High has a new mural! What was once a blank wall has transformed into a vibrant canvas of creativity through the collective efforts of over 165 students who participated in a class-wide group art project. This project was not only about painting a mural; it was a journey of exploration and collaboration. Students began by learning about famous muralists and public art, drawing inspiration to create their own unique designs. Through critique, revision, and a student vote, a final design emerged that truly captured the essence of exploration and creativity. Each student played a pivotal role in bringing this mural to life, with some elements crafted exclusively by small groups of students, showcasing their individual talents. From floating jellyfish to a shy clownfish, every detail added a new layer of personal touches to this masterpiece.
Finally, each student left their mark on their work by adding their fingerprint as a star in the sky, symbolizing their unique contribution to this incredible work of art. “I am immensely proud of every student who poured their heart and soul into this project,” said Art teacher Mr. Ian Armstrong, “creating a lasting legacy of creativity and collaboration within our school which will remain for years to come.”
