A Note from Your Principals A Note from Your Principals

Winter Benchmark Assessments Winter Benchmark Assessments

One of the things we appreciate most about our ET staff is that we work together to provide a high-quality education for children and families. We place great value on seeing our students demonstrate continued success and academic progress as they move through their academic journey over the course of a school year, as well as their K-5 career at Eli Terry.

Over the course of the last few weeks, and in the coming week, your child(ren) have engaged in their winter benchmark assessments in literacy and math. Not only do these updated assessments highlight the tremendous progress students have made over the past 5 months, but it provides our teachers important information to help ensure that students are on-track, prepared and ready for the second half of the year. With this updated information about individual strengths and areas for growth, teachers will be able to design a variety of whole-group and small-group lessons to meet every students' unique learning needs. In addition, they'll likely be sharing this data with you to connect and collaboratively support students in the areas they individually are working to grow, and continue to celebrate together the progress they are making.

As we head into February, we look forward to continuing to create opportunities that make our school a place where all children enjoy learning, develop strong relationships, and continue to grow each day socially, emotionally, and academically. As always, thank you for your continued support!

Thankful Thursdays Thankful Thursdays

Each year, our Sunshine Committee plans a series of physical “Thankful Thursday” whole-staff appreciation events during a winter/spring month. This year we are planning them for the month of March.

We would LOVE to have a handful of parent volunteers help bring these events to life, as our committee of 3 is small but mighty.

If you are interested in helping with this climate/culture initiative, please reach out via email to Mrs. Hammer!

Nominations Wanted! Nominations Wanted!

Do you know someone who deserves an award for their volunteer service?

The South Windsor Board of Education invites residents, or employees of a South Windsor business, to nominate someone who has volunteered their time for the betterment of the South Windsor community.

The Eugene Policelli Service Awards were established by the Board of Education to recognize and honor Dr. Eugene Policelli’s service to the town of South Windsor.

The nominee must:

1) be a resident of South Windsor for the past three years, or have worked and/or volunteered in South Windsor for at least three years, or

2) be a South Windsor High School Grade 12 student, and

3) be an example of outstanding citizenship and have made a significant contribution to enhancing the quality of life in South Windsor.

Nominees may be nominated by an organization where an individual has volunteered, an employer, a school employee, or a community member.

A family member cannot initiate a nomination.

Prior to making a nomination, please read the service/leadership criteria below:

Impact on the Community: Was the nominee’s contribution substantive enough to make a difference in the organization and the community?
Amount/Depth of Service: Does the nominee appear to have demonstrated a long-term commitment to one or more community service activities?
Leadership: Has the nominee assumed a leadership role in the community service activity?

After completing this Google nomination form, the award selection committee will reach out to the nominee to inform them of the nomination, explain the award program, ask the nominee if they would like to formally apply for the award, and provide them with the application (if needed).

The nomination deadline is February 24, 2025.

Please reach out to Benjamin Wry, South Windsor Public Schools School Counseling Curriculum Specialist, at 860-648-5033, or bwry@swindsor.k12.ct.us, with any questions or concerns.
