Message from the Superintendent
December is always a busy month, and that is proving to be truer than true in LOSD! We are working on many improvement efforts, including but not limited to progressing on bond-related school enhancements, developing academic and intervention plans, determining social emotional learning curriculum, enhancing Response to Intervention, implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, aligning our systems and support across schools, and much more. These are only a few of the many endeavors underway, with each of them inviting input from stakeholders.
In LOSD, we are committed to the academic and emotional health and wellbeing of our students, families and school district. Our outstanding educators, school leaders and district team are working hard to continue to improve our efforts, and to support students holistically, so that our students can be the best version of themselves for life.
Student Success Act: Your Survey Feedback
As part of our requirements to receive grant funding from the Student Success Act, LOSD conducted a needs assessment survey with the Lake Oswego community last month. We were thrilled to hear from more than 3,000 student, teacher, parent, and community voices.
What you shared as the greatest areas of need:
Address and support student mental health
Increase options for alternative pathways
Increase diversity and adopt culturally responsive pedagogy and curriculum
Support differentiation and SPED students
Adjust the schedule to support student mental health
Decrease class size
Please click here for a complete summary of your feedback.
More about SSA: In May, the Oregon Legislature and the Governor signed the Student Success Act (HB 3427). The new law provides funding, in the form of a grant, to all Oregon schools. The funds must be used to increase student outcomes by addressing five specific areas of importance: reducing academic disparities, meeting students’ mental and/or behavioral health needs, providing equitable access to academic courses, allowing teachers and staff sufficient time to collaborate and review student data and develop strategies to support all students, and establishing strong partnerships for student achievement.

Bond: Pool Considerations
The LOSD Administration and School Board are reviewing all options based on the most equitable and fiscally responsible use of funds to ensure the greatest opportunity for each and every student in our care.

The City of Lake Oswego is expected to discuss the pool and potential partnership at its upcoming City Council meeting on Dec. 17. Upon further direction from that meeting, major user groups -- including but not limited to swimming, water polo, golf, tennis, indoor and outdoor youth and adult sports, pickleball and water-water pool users -- will be invited to give testimony and provide feedback on the benefits and trade-offs that LOSD and the City face considering financial considerations.

Weather Event Communications
As we edge closer to winter, please be sure to review the LOSD emergency communications page of our district website for information, including when and how you will be notified if we have a school closure or delay.
Standard Response Protocol: Say Hello!
In the event of weather-related and emergency incidents, LOSD uses a text-to-voice system that allows us to disseminate information to you as quickly as possible through multiple communication channels. Those channels include phone, text, email, and the LOSD app. The system also translates the message into your preferred language, as noted on your student's verification form.
Please note: the phone messages are voice activated. In other words, the system requires you to speak first to prompt the voice message. For example, say "hello" when answering your phone.
