100 Mile Club
The 100 Mile Club was started over 30 years ago by Kara Lubin, a public-school teacher in the Corona-Norco Unified School District in Southern California. 100 Mile Club is now a national non-profit organization whose sole mission is to provide to all individuals the opportunity to experience fitness and personal success by Accepting the Challenge of running (or walking) 100 miles at school during a single school year.
This year, the 100 Mile Club will be open to Kinder – 5th grade AAK students. 100 Mile Club sessions will take place on the sidewalk on the NW side of the parking lot from the donation bin to the playground. Students may participate from 7:25-7:40am and 3:40-4:00pm. Children who are interested in being a part of the 100 Mile Club should sign up here: https://forms.gle/ZoyMdgDdkYho33fC6 or send back the form that will be going home next week. Each child who signs up for the 100 Mile Club will receive a “Challenge Accepted” ID card, signifying that they are taking part in the 100 Mile Club challenge.
We have Accepted the Challenge, and we are so excited! Starting Monday, September 23rd, participants will go outside, stretch out, and earn some miles! The miles and love for running begin to build instantly! Through the journey toward 100 miles, your child will practice personal goal setting, team spirit, perseverance, poise, confidence, and honest self-evaluation.
If you have additional questions about the 100 Mile Club, please contact Amanda Woods at awoods@aakelementary.org. If your child is interested in signing up for the 100 Mile Club, please sign up on the online form or return the slip at the bottom of this page to school.
Thanks so much!

Pick-Up and Drop-Off
AAK Families,
We listened to what you had to say regarding our drop off and pick up procedures. We have made changes to both to accommodate the feedback we have received.
We have implemented a new drop off and pick up system. We have attached maps to help explain the new process for each.
Morning Drop Off
Families will enter our parking lot from Wheaton and turn right, drive all of the way to the south end of the parking lot and turn left towards the building. Pull up in front of the building, remain in your vehicle, a staff member will open the car door and help your child out of the car. Continue straight ahead to the stop sign, turn left and exit the parking lot.
The far north side of the parking lot heading west is one way. Do not enter the parking lot using the far left lane.
Pre-K families will follow the same route until they reach the stop sign, at the stop sign turn right and park. You will meet the teacher at the side door under the stairs.
Drop off will be from 8:00am-8:15am!
Afternoon Pick Up:
Families will park and pick up their children from the classroom. To ensure the safety of all students, families must adhere to the following traffic pattern.
Doors will open from 3:20pm-3:35pm.
We will not be calling students out early from 3:00pm-3:20pm, this is extremely disruptive to the end of the school day.
You will enter the parking lot from Wheaton Drive and immediately turn right into the parking lot. You may then choose to turn left and park in any of the available lanes. All parking lanes are one way towards AAK. Once you have entered the building and you have your child, an AAK staff member will be out front providing opportunities for groups to safely cross to get back to your car. Once in your car, you will exit the parking lot towards AAK, at the stop sign you will turn left and exit the parking lot. The north side of the parking lot heading west is one way.
Pre-K families will follow this same pick up procedure!
A few reminders:
You must have a permit to park for ANY length of time in a handicap parking spot. Violators will be ticketed.
Afternoon pick up is not a time to have a conference with your child’s teacher. Please email them to schedule an appointment.
Starting Tuesday, September 3rd!!

School Lunch Information
We have a new meal caterer this year! Fast Fit Foods will be offering a more kid friendly menu that provides a broader variety of fruits and vegetables for our students. They also pride themselves on serving more organic and locally sourced foods than our previous caterer.
All Breakfasts and Lunches are free to all students for the 2024-25 school year!
The breakfast and lunch menu will be posted in dragon mail every week and we will be bulk ordering for meals, so you do not need to order ahead.
If your child has dietary restrictions, we are able to accommodate meals that are dairy free, gluten free, vegetarian, and nut free. Please come into the office to request a meal modification form. This form will need to be filled out and signed by a doctor and returned to the school prior to modified meals being ordered. Please email Jada Kankel jkankel@aakelementary.org. Or call 970-226-2800 if you have any questions.
