Message from Superintendent Dr. Latrice N. Mumin
Greetings, CUSD Families!
This past weekend, our country observed Memorial Day which is a time to honor the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our nation. Sadly, our district also faced a heartbreaking loss, as a Chester High School student tragically lost their life, and several other students were injured. Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those impacted.
Counseling and support services are available this week at Chester High School and Toby Farms. If you believe your child may need additional support, please contact your school’s main office.
With just over two weeks left in the academic year, there are dozens of end-of-year events scheduled to take place, and we highlight many of them in this issue of Clipper Connection. There is also a full list in the Upcoming Events section.
One special event happening today is our Multicultural Family Summit for ELD students and families, starting at 11:00 a.m., at Chester High School. This event will be a celebration of the different cultures that make up our school community. Events highlights will include arts and crafts, games, prizes, and more. Families who are available are encouraged to stop by and take part.
Important Dates/Upcoming Half-Days
I want to remind families of two scheduled half-days next month.
Students will have an early dismissal on:
- Friday, June 13
- Monday, June 16 (last day of school for scholars in grades Pre-K through 11th grades)
Sports Banquet on Friday
This Friday, our Athletics Department will host a special district-wide Sports Banquet to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our amazing student-athletes.
We look forward to sharing highlights and photos from the event in our next e-newsletter and on social media and Clipper TV. While this is an invite-only celebration for student-athletes and their families, we know our entire community has plenty of #CPride and joins us in applauding their accomplishments.
Upcoming Senior Activities
For our families with seniors, I know the excitement is building as all of the end-of-the-year senior activities are approaching.

In Case You Missed It (#ICYMI)
High School Student Speaks on DCIU Student Panel
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Delaware County Intermediate Unit’s Legislative Breakfast alongside several of our school board directors.
One of the highlights of the morning was seeing our own Chester High School scholar, Sakai Miller participate in a student panel to share how AI is shaping his growth as a learner and inspiring his journey as a future leader.
Middle School Scholars Attend Leadership Institute
Several of our middle school scholars recently participated in the Delaware Valley Consortium for Excellence’s (DCVE) “Middle School Leadership Institute,” hosted at Abington High School in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania.
The event featured a keynote speaker, interactive breakout sessions, and a lively poetry slam.
Opportunities like this help our students build confidence, sharpen their leadership skills, and connect with peers across the region. We’re grateful to UPenn, the DCVE, and everyone who made this experience possible.
District-Wide Music Concert Showcases Student Talent
Our Spring Music Concert on May 21 was a wonderful showcase of talent, and I couldn’t be prouder of our student performers from across the district.
A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff who helped bring this event to life, especially our incredible music department and the teachers led by Dr. Bradley.
You can watch the recording of the concert by clicking the video below.
CHS Drama Club Students Make Debut
Congratulations to the student performers from CHS’s new after-school Drama Club on their very first showcase!
Our scholars had their debut performance last Thursday and it was heartwarming to see them explore the world of theater. I’m looking forward to watching this program grow and thrive in the years ahead.
If your scholar is interested in acting, stage crew, or just trying something new, the Drama Club is now accepting participants for next season.
District Scholars Take on Math24 Challenge—Winners Compete Today at DCIU
On May 20, 44 students from across the district came together at STEM for our annual Math24 Challenge. It was great to see our scholars so focused and excited, using strategy and quick thinking to solve math problems under pressure.
Students in grades 4–8 competed, and the top three winners from grades 4–5 and 6–8 are representing us today, May 28, at the DCIU tournament. I’ll be sure to share an update on how they did!
A fun highlight this year:
Three siblings all competed: Elijah (8th grade), Jazmine (6th grade), and Rashawn (4th grade)
Putting it together takes a lot of teamwork, and I would like to thank the 11 high school students from STEM who helped out as proctors, including two former Math24 players themselves.
Another big thank you to all the teachers and staff who supported our students, especially Ms. Frances Santoleri from Toby Farms. And congratulations again to all of our participants.
June SEL Calendar
The last SEL: Promoting Positive Actions monthly calendar for the 2024/25 academic year is now available.
Although school ends in the middle of June, I hope you all will still decide to incorporate the daily tasks into your everyday routine.
We will also share more SEL content throughout the summer to help promote positive actions.
