Luxford Elementary School Scoop
June 2019
A Note from the Principal...
I am writing today to thank you for all of the wonderful memories over the last few years. I have learned so much from you, your children and our incredible Luxford teachers and staff. The partnership our school shares with all of you is not only special, but it is powerful. When schools and families unite, great things happen for kids which we witness firsthand here at Luxford each day.
I will miss seeing you and your children on a daily basis, but I promise to visit often and do my best to make a difference for our division’s teachers and students in my new role.
Thank you for all of your support, all the hugs, cards and most of all, for sharing your children with me. Being the principal of Luxford has made me a better person and will continue to inspire me for many years to come.
Mrs. Jordan, Luxford's new principal, is so excited to begin next week and get to know all of you!
Take care of those sweet kiddos, and treasure each moment together! Time really does fly by!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Colucci
Registration
Shared Housing
If you were enrolled at Luxford for the 2018-2019 school year under shared housing, you will also need to reapply. Students will not be placed in a class if they do not have current residency requirements for the 2019-2020 school year.
Leases
If your lease that is on record at Luxford has expired, please bring us a current utility bill or lease to ensure your child's file is up to date for enrollment.
Out of Zone Enrollment Applications
If you applied for out-of-zone enrollment last year, that was only approved for one school year so you'll have to reapply if you wish to attend school at Luxford again. Please remember, approval is based on many requirements and factors, and it is not guaranteed to be approved again.
Kindergarten Registration
What you should bring to register:
- Two proofs of residence/address (lease agreement/mortgage statement and current gas, electric or water bills)
- A certified birth certificate
- A physical examination report (for elementary students only)
- A current immunization records
- Two current emergency contact phone numbers
- A previous school report card/progress report (if applicable)
Registration for Transportation Form
Beginning this school year, students are required to have a registration form on file. These were sent home and many of you already returned them before the end of school. If you did not return one, please come into the office to request one. You can direct transportation questions to: vbcpsbusstop@vbschools.com
Tips to prevent "summer slide" and maintain your child's skills over the summer:
2. Involve your child in every day math activities at home. As you walk through the grocery store, help your child round up or down to the nearest dollar to estimate the cost of items or estimate the total cost of the groceries in your cart. Let your child count and use manipulatives like dried beans at home to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
3. Read to your child for 20 minutes every day. Reading to your child or sharing in the reading builds your child's vocabulary and impacts their learning significantly. Check out the graphic above to see the impact of reading daily. It is also a great time to bond with your child.
