Welcome Mr. Mankin - Interim Assistant Principal
We are excited that Mr. Tim Mankin will be joining us to assist administratively at FCI until our new Assistant Principal has been named and arrived.
Mr. Mankin was the principal at HIJH and has years of experience working with middle level students. He started at FCI on Wednesday, February 12 and will stay with us until March 21. We're so excited to welcome him!
"Good afternoon, Falcons😊! I have been offered the opportunity to serve as your interim A.P., and I am eager to get started as an FCI Falcon. All of my experience as a teacher and administrator have been at the middle level…36 years total. After retiring as principal from HIJH in 2021 and then serving as interim principal at FCJH in 23-24, I welcome the chance to work exclusively with 5th and 6th graders at FCI. Eight words will be the foundation of my work with all of you: What are your needs? How can I help? Serving the students, families, and staff will be my top priorities. I look forward to meeting everyone! Go Falcons!"

Robotics Team Competition!
Fall Creek Intermediate’s VEX Robotics team competed in the school’s first VEX Robotics tournament at Noblesville West Middle School February 8th. All our Falcon Bot Builders did a phenomenal job and two of our teams, The Tech Titans and The Fried Chickens, made it to the finals round. Tech Titans were able to pull away with a third-place tie and The Fried Chickens tied for seventh.
Our other teams had many great matches showcasing teamwork and talent. They successfully dodged any obstacle that came their way. We are SO PROUD of all our Falcon Robotics team members for their hard work through the season on the 8th.
Curious to learn more about VEX Robotics? Catch our team at Sand Creek Intermediate on February 22nd when we compete in the Sharkfest tournament. It will be a great day!
Outside Food/Drink Reminders
To ensure the safety of students, the following list provides options for parents to provide snacks for their child while keeping our classrooms free from allergens. Parents may provide snacks when there is an extended period between arrival/dismissal and lunch. Your child's teachers will share if snacks are allowed in any classroom for this circumstance only. This list below has been shared by those teachers and serves as a guide for K-6. [Note that items listed below are examples as off-brands are acceptable if they follow the guidelines to keep free from allergens.]
**Notes:
- While we serve nut products in our cafeterias, all classrooms are nut free.
- As outside food from restaurants are not on our approved snack list for our classrooms, students are not allowed to bring food or drink items from those locations in to finish for breakfast or eat as a snack. Please have your child finish those items before entering the school. (e.g., Starbucks food/drink, McDonald's food/drink, etc.)
- During the school day, food, including candy, is only to be consumed in the cafeteria or under the direct supervision of a staff member. Gum is only allowable with direct approval by a teacher or staff member.
Creating Positive Relationships Program
5th grade Parent Night - Creating Positive Relationships
Bethany Jones from Creating Positive Relationships (CPR) is hosting a Parent Seminar for FCI 5th grade parents on Tuesday, February 25 at 6:30pm in the FCI Media Center/Library. Please enter the school through door #1.
CPR curriculum is NOT taught in the 5th grade. Instead, the parent information session is offered to support conversations at home.
At the parent support meeting, strategies will be given to parents on how to begin conversations that help your child navigate the changes that occur physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially during puberty. While this evening is designed for 5th grade parents specifically, all parents are welcome.
ILEARN
- To prepare your child’s iPad for this assessment we need you to download the “SecureTestBrowser” app. The app can be found here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/airsecuretest/id607002517.
- Please install this app on your child's iPad as soon as possible but no later than 3/14 so we may be able to verify all iPads are ready for the ILEARN practice and operational assessment.
- If you have a rental iPad or enrolled your BYO iPad into the district's Manger system, the app will automatically be pushed to your student’s iPad.
The Indiana Department of Education requires students in grades 3-8 to participate in a spring standardized assessment (ILEARN or IAM). We will begin practicing with the assessment, app, and tools in March before the operational window opens immediately following Spring Break.

Attention 6th Grade Families!
Next year your student will be participating in the 7th Grade Fall Creek Junior High Field Trip to Camp Tecumseh! The field trip will be a 3-day and 2-night sleep-away experience for your student during the week of October 6th-10th. The cost of the field trip is $155 per student (financial assistance is available for families in need). This is a highlight of 7th Grade and we don't want any students to miss out on the experience. More information on Camp Tecumseh can be found at the following website: https://camptecumseh.org/
Counselors' Corner
From 5th Grade Counselor - Jessica Sullivan
In January, 5th graders wrapped up their third classroom lesson of the year. This lesson focused on stress management. Students learned about the impact of stress in their lives and the importance of coping skills. They participated in group activities to explore a variety of strategies and completed their own stress management plan. Students were also encouraged to lean on their support system and reach out to adults at home and school if they are experiencing high levels of stress.
Empowered People, Empower People Small Groups
Mrs. Wright, our school social worker, will begin a group focused on student empowerment, “Empowered People, Empower People”. The purpose of this group is to help students recognize and embrace their strengths, values, and resilience. Students will develop positive self-talk, identify their purpose, and practice self-compassion to build lasting confidence and self-esteem that will benefit them in school and beyond. There will be a 5th grade group, and a 6th grade group that will meet 1x a week, for 6 weeks. If you are interested in your child participating in this group or have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Wright directly via email nawilliams@hse.k12.in.us or via phone at 317-915-4220 ext.4204.

Important Safety Reminders
- Office Entry - When you ring the buzzer for entry, remember that the office staff will ask you your name, intent, child's name/homeroom to ensure those that enter FCI should enter.
- Photo ID - Please have photo ID such as your driver's license ready for identification purposes.
- Door 1 entry - All visitors must enter via door 1 regardless of time of day. Please do not come in the cafeteria door with students before school.
- Bus lot - Do not enter the bus lot prior to bus arrival or while buses are in the lot.
- Drop-off - Please make all attempts possible to have your child exit your vehicle on the side of the curb. Exit the opposite side and walking in between cars is not safe.
Late Arrival Drop-Off
Students must be accompanied into the building and signed in by parents/guardians any time after 9:15am. Students should not come in by themselves.
Early Dismissal
Please notify the school in advance of an early dismissal. You can send a note in with your student or call the front office. At pick up, parents must come inside the building to sign out their child. Parents must ring the buzzer and indicate that they are picking up their child. Photo ID is required to be provided to office staff every time students are signed out. We will not release your child to anyone other than the legal guardians listed in Skyward without written or verbal permission.
Transportation Changes
If the child is aware of how they are going home in the afternoon, no note or call is needed. However, if there is a change during the day the student is not aware of, please call the office (317) 915-4220 by 2:30pm to ensure a safe and efficient dismissal.
FCI Drop-off and Pick-Up Procedures
Please ensure that you are staying within the cones during drop-off and pick-up. This means patiently waiting in the "zipper" lines as well as not going around the cones at the ends of the aisles regardless of time of day. Students should also exit & enter vehicles on the side nearest the curb.
Additionally, when entering and exiting our parking lot, please be extremely cautious. This is why it is suggested that all travel northbound to both enter and then when exiting our parking lot. Doing otherwise, makes it challenging to enter & exit across the traffic on Olio especially with the traffic into and out of Fall Creek Junior High.
You may NOT park and get out of your vehicle to get your child from the curb at dismissal. If you need to get your child early, you must bring your driver's license into the office to check out your child
All of our practices are constructed for the safety of our students & families! Let's remember that our children are watching! We can set the good example! Thank you, Falcon family!
Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors and volunteers must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned by office staff to check-in to the building.
If you do not have a Safe Visitor Badge, please find the directions to apply for one listed here https://www.hseschools.org/departments/school-safety under Visiting and Volunteering.
