Eagle Edition
Edison Elementary ~ September 2, 2024
Note from the Principals
Our school year is off and running, and we thank you for the JOY your children bring us each day! We value the relationships we have with our families, and want to make sure you are all aware of these Promises to the Community that are outlined in our Shared Vision. We look forward to a wonderful 2024-2025 school year!
We hope you will join us for the PTO meeting this Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Edison. ALL parents are members of the PTO and encouraged to attend and get involved!
We are bringing back Marco's Pizza Nights to raise some additional funds this year. These are scheduled for the second Thursday of each month. We will send home digital reminders and students will come home with a sticker reminder as well. Marco's donates a percentage of sales back to the school, and class parties can be earned depending on participation. The first pizza night is Thursday, September 12th, the same as the PTO Ice Cream Social. We hope this makes for a quick easy dinner alternative on a busy evening!
Just a few requests/notes:
- If you are using the car line for PM dismissal, please make sure you have your school issued car tag displayed in your front windshield. These car tags help expedite the pick up process! If you do not have one yet, please request one here.
- We are a Class DOJO school! This means that all of our teachers use Class DOJO, along with school email, for parent communication. If you have not yet connected with your teacher, please do so. This is a wonderful way to receive classroom updates and information, so please ensure that your notifications are on. If trying to reach a principal, please use our email (nancy.tracz@weschools.org or bailey.mackey@weschools.org ) or call the school office.

Student Related Arts Schedules
A new six-day (A-F) rotating schedule was implemented across the elementary schools in Willoughby-Eastlake this year. This can be confusing for all, since we are no longer operating on a traditional Monday-Friday schedule for Related Arts (Physical Education, Music, STEAM). Teachers will be communicating which days students should remember to bring their tennis shoes for Physical Education as well as which day Library books will be exchanged. I will also include the monthly A-F schedule in these newsletters to help. Students will have PE on each of their Related Arts Days as shown below. *Note: Students in Miss Zeno and Mrs. Cosentino will have Physical Education on B and E Days unless otherwise communicated.
Library Book Return/Selection Days
"B" Days: Notaro, Walmsley, Cosentino, Zeno, Merhar, Phelps, Igarashi, Walter, Wagner
"D" Days: Rodia, Maxon, Kissinger, Bittner, Bordonaro, Culek, Camp, Vidovic, Watson
"F" Days: DeMark, Amata, Brody, Camargo, Heising, Smith, Patterson, Huber, Roskey

Arrival and Dismissal
We request and appreciate your cooperation in order to make arrival & dismissal safe for our students and staff.
Car & Walker Arrival:
Students arriving to school by car may be dropped off between 8:25 am and 8:45 am in our front loop. Please do not drop students off until you see a staff member OUTSIDE the building to greet and supervise them.
Please pull all the way forward to the car in front of you to maximize drop-off space.
In order to keep the car line moving, it is important that you remain in your car and have your child ready to exit from the passenger side of the car. Staff is available to help students as needed.
Students will be directed to exit the car once they are in the “blue unloading zone”.
For safety purposes, parents are not able to park in our lot and walk students into school in the mornings. If you are driving your child to school, please use the car line.
Parents who walk their kids to school are asked to say goodbye when they get to the sign that indicates “students only beyond this point”.
Dismissal:
Please make sure the teacher is aware of your child's regular school dismissal plans. Changes in dismissal plans should be communicated by emailing edisonoffice@weschools.org by 1:00 pm on the date of the change. This ensures that our secretaries have time to relay the message to the teacher/student(s).
If you will be picking up your child in the car line, please fill out this CAR TAG REQUEST FORM. We will send home the car tag with the child indicated on your form. Car tags should be clearly displayed in the front windshield as you enter Edison’s driveway.
If your child has permission to walk or ride a bike home, please fill out this WALKER TAG REQUEST FORM
Note: Students in grades K-2 are not permitted to walk home without being accompanied by an older sibling or a parent that will walk up to the sign out front (we will match walker tags).
The car line will start moving around 2:40 pm and students should be picked up by 2:55 pm. If you don’t like waiting in line, it’s best to arrive around 2:50 pm! By then, the line is moving.
Crossroads
If you believe your child is experiencing challenges in terms of their mental well-being, it is important to reach out to your principal. To meet your child’s needs, it’s essential to collaborate with the principal and school personnel to explore resources and services available at school. In addition to Crossroads Counselors, the District also has family liaisons and guidance counselors who can provide needed interventions and support.
Fresh Produce Market
Free fresh produce market coming soon! The Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools and the Cleveland Food Bank will provide monthly produce for any family in the community. Our first market will be open on Thursday, September 5th from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at North High School. Service will not begin prior to 10 a.m. See the posting for more dates and information.
Edison PTO
Edison families and staff are automatically part of our PTO! Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Edison Eagle Landing. You can reach out to the PTO via email at eagles@edisonpto.org, and can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
