Principal Message:
Dear RSI Parents and Family Members,
I am thrilled to share some exciting updates from this past weekend! Our Robotics Club competed at the SCI event and delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing their innovation and teamwork. Congratulations to team Spare Parts, for winning Saturday's robotics tournament which qualifies them for the State Robotics Tournament on March 22 at the State Fair Grounds. Team members are Maria Luna, Gunnar Maple, CJ Moreno, Grady Wills and Davis Cole. Thanks to coaches John Hochstetler (RSI Library) and Bill Sinclair (6th Grade STEM) for inspiring these amazing students.
Additionally, our Spell Bowl team demonstrated incredible skill and dedication at the HSE District competition, securing a 3rd place finish and earning a top ten ranking in the state!
We are incredibly proud of all our students for their hard work, competitive spirit, and exceptional sportsmanship. Thank you to our coach Shontae Strong and the RSI families for their unwavering support.
Please remember that next week we will only have school on Monday and Tuesday. Please have a safe and enjoyable weekend!
Sincerely,
Dana Kaminski, Ph.D.

HAMILTON COUNTY SCHOOLS ATTENDANCE PROGRAM/ATTENDING CLASS EQUALS SUCCESS (ACES)
ACES is a proactive program sponsored by the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office. Its purpose is to promote good school attendance by enforcing the legal obligations of compulsory school attendance noted in Indiana Law. Students may be referred by HSE Schools to the Hamilton County Deputy Prosecutor for the City of Fishers for participation in the program for being truant from school or having unexcused absences. Students with absences without a doctor’s note that exceeds 10 days per school year are considered unexcused and may also result in a referral to the ACES program.
Title IV Ed-Flex Waiver
Hamilton Southeastern Schools is seeking public input on a Title IV Ed-Flex Waiver. To learn more about this waiver, how it will be used by the district, and to provide public comment please visit hseschools.org/publicnotices and click on IDOE Title IV Ed-Flex Waiver.
Attendance Matters! Stay Engaged and Reap the Rewards!
Consistent school attendance is essential for promoting student achievement. Research shows that regular attendance is linked to higher success rates in math and language arts, and students with lower chronic absence rates are more likely to excel.
Attendance Reminders:
1. Call-In Requirement: Parents/guardians must notify the school by 10:00 AM if a student will be absent or arriving late. A 24-hour voicemail is available for your convenience.
2. Excused Absences: A maximum of ten (10) absences per school year will be excused. Beyond this, absences require a doctor’s note to avoid being marked unexcused.
3. Half-Day Credit: Students must attend for at least 3 hours to be credited for a half day, which is necessary to participate in extracurricular activities.
Reward Opportunity: Students who maintain an attendance rate above 97% will soon be eligible for a special reward, so keep aiming for great attendance! Let’s work together to make this a successful year!

It's already Friday! We are grateful 🙏that this upcoming holiday 🦃will allow us to spend time with friends and family in just a few days. We established a new partnership 🫱🏻🫲🏽with the Indiana Pacers 🏀this week and received tickets 🎟️to the game this upcoming Monday. Many of our RSI leaders are looking forward to a fantastic night 🌓as the Pacers take on the Pelicans.
This past week we have to give a huge shout out to Chick Fil A🍗who donated over 100 meals to our RSI staff. The best part about these partnerships is that we don't use any parent funds💵, allowing us to give back to your children through grants from teachers 📬who propose items needed for enrichment learning 📚in their classrooms.
12/3: Don't forget 📌to mark this date on your calendar, as UPaint Pottery 🎨will be at RSI on this special night at 6 pm. This is always a wonderful time 😊for guardians, families, and friends to get together and create something that will be memorable for years to come.
12/10: Public PTO Meeting 🎉will take place starting at 7pm in the Media Center / Library - We will discuss teacher grants 📋and various other topics. Please join us as your voice 👩🏻🦰👨🏽🦱🧑🏽🦰👱🏼♀️🧑🏻👨🏼🦰counts for supporting these grants.
12/13: HAWK 🦅Party! Let those kids enjoy being kids and have a wonderful time for the HAWK Party🥳. Please note the link, which will enable you to purchase an entry ticket for your child(ren). Please note that all sales are final, and you must purchase tickets 🎫by 10 p.m. on 12/10. This event promises to be exciting, featuring a photo 📸booth for kids to enjoy, music🎶, games, and plenty of laughter from the delighted kids. We will send out another link for volunteers, as we anticipate a large turnout and will need parents with a SafeCheck ✔️background to help out and support the event. https://24-winter-hawk-party.cheddarup.com
In the spirit of giving and with the holidays quickly approaching, don't forget to check out the teachers wish list, which can significantly impact not only the teacher but also the students in their classroom. Be sure to check it out!

Counselors' Corner
The school social worker at RSI is offering a support group for students geared toward improving healthy relationships. This support group will go over how to recognize unhealthy relationships and implement skills to improve communication with others. If you think your student would benefit from this support group, please fill out this form. Once a student has been selected for a group, we require PARENT/GUARDIAN PERMISSION. A link will be sent out via email and must be returned in order for the student to participate in the group. This group will run for 8 weeks and will take place during RTI or TE time depending on the grade of the student. I am hoping to begin this group the week of Oct. 28th.
A note from Mrs. Satterly to 5th grade families:
I’m thrilled to share that I have had the pleasure of meeting all of our 5th graders and introducing myself as their school counselor! It’s been wonderful getting to know each of them, and I look forward to continuing this journey as they navigate their time here at Riverside.
This fall, I will be leading class lessons focused on organization skills. Students will create personalized action plans to help them improve their organization of both physical spaces and tasks. I believe these skills will not only enhance their academic performance but also contribute to their overall success and confidence.
To further support your child’s growth, I encourage you to engage with them at home. Help them practice their action plans, establish routines, and create organized spaces for their school materials. Your encouragement and involvement can make a significant difference in reinforcing these important skills.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help our students thrive!

Please see the attached list if your student is in need of a tutor!

Holiday Help
With the holidays quickly approaching, RSI wants to show care and support for our Riverside families. This year, we are organizing Holiday Help to provide aid to some of our students’ families by providing gift cards to purchase things they need for the holiday season. This will be done on a first-come, first-served basis as there may be a limited supply of donations. Please fill out the attached form HERE by Wednesday, December 11th if you would like help this holiday season. You can also find the form on the Counseling Canvas page from your student’s account. You will be notified on December 13th if your family will be provided holiday help this year. We will have the gift cards ready to be mailed/picked up/sent home with students on December 16th. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor, Mrs. Anton (6th grade) or Mrs. Satterly (5th grade).
We are also reaching out simultaneously to those who find themselves able to give. If you would like to donate to support Riverside families, please send in $25 gift cards (gas, grocery, or superstore, such as Walmart, Meijer, Amazon) to the counseling office at RSI by Wednesday, December 11th. Please refrain from donating super specific gift cards such as Xbox, Roblox, restaurants, etc. We want to be sure that families who receive the funds can use them in the ways they need it most. Thank you for your consideration in offering a helping hand to our Riverside students and families!
Snack Attack
RSI Families,
Riverside Intermediate is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. To be part of this free program, you must sign up your family online. https://forms.gle/qQ2GgbD32C66Dhfg7 or have questions, please contact FYAPFood@gmail.com
You can also reach out to Brenna Anton, the 6th grade school counselor, if you have questions.

6th Grade

In this week’s lesson, your child explored what it means to be optimistic and pessimistic. Then they studied how these two attitudes can affect our relationships and our ability to learn.
Try This at Home:
Ask your child what it means to be optimistic and what it means to be pessimistic. Discuss ways that those attitudes can affect them in different situations they encounter, such as before a test or a sporting event.

Students also learn how STIs are spread and any myths they may believe are dispelled. Students are shown how HIV effects the immune system. Students receive a booklet for note taking and they are encouraged to share each day’s lesson with their parent/guardians.
Parents have the right to review the material before lessons are taught at school.
More detailed information is available in a Parent Webinar at: cpr4teens.org/parents/webinar-info/

Christmas Light Recycling 2024
HSE Schools have collected broken/unwanted holiday lights for the past several years, and it has been very successful. This event has prevented over 7.5 tons of e-waste from entering landfills. Starting on November 25 and going until January 15, I am asking that each school collect unwanted/unusable holiday lights in a central location in your building (front office, media center, science classroom, environment/eco club). As your school’s collection bins fill, we will transport the material to a central location.

Canvas
The following instructions are how to create and pair accounts in Canvas. Your HSE students will be using Canvas throughout virtual and in-person instructions. If you have a child or children that are new to the district, please use the following instructions to link your child's Canvas account to your parent account. Please note that if you have already created a Parent Canvas account and linked your child(ren)'s account(s), you will not need to do this.
You will need your child's school email address and ID#. This information can be found in Skyward. Please click here to access Skyward. If the link is not working, you can go to the HSE homepage and click on the Canvas tab located at the top right of the screen.
Once you are logged in, you will select your child's name from the drop down menu under Family Access at the top of the page. Next, you will click on the Student Info tab from the column on the left. Your child's school email can be found next to the word School in the middle of the screen (just to the right of their school picture) and their school ID # is located under their picture (their school ID # is labeled as Other ID).
Steps:
- Please click here to access Canvas. If the link is not working, you can go to the HSE homepage and click on the Canvas tab located at the top right of the screen. You will click on the Students/Staff Portal rectangle to login with your child's information, using your child's full school email address as the username. Enter "hse" in front of their 6 digit other ID number for the password. You will now be logged in under their name.
- While on their Canvas page, click on Account and then Settings. Look to the right and click Pair with Observer. You will need to write down the code so you can use it to link your accounts.
- Click Account and Logout. You are now logged out of your child's account.
- If you have multiple students in the district, you will need to complete steps 1-3 for each of your children. You will need a pairing code for each student in an HSE school.
- Once you have a pairing code for each of your children, you will click here to access the home page of Canvas. If the link is not working, you can go to the HSE homepage and click on the Canvas tab located at the top right of the screen. You will click on the Parent Canvas Portal rectangle to create your profile. You will need your name, email, create a password, and one student pairing code. Click on Start Participating.
- Check your email now to finalize your Canvas sign-up.
- To add other children, go back to the HSE homepage, click Canvas tab, click Parent Portal, and login. Click on Account, click on Observing, and add your next child's pairing code.
