What Does The Fox Say?
October 10, 2024
My daughter is 11yo. She started middle school this year. I'd say that her journey and development has been pretty typical. All children have challenges and successes as they grow. 11yo has OCD and anxiety. Making friends, building confidence, and applying coping strategies are things she has struggled with throughout her childhood. As parents, we know that when our children struggle, we struggle with them. We have our moments of tears, screaming/yelling and apologies but we've also had so many moments of small wins and big laughs. Each of us has had to push, pull and grow in new ways. The memories of the first-day-of-school-attachment-tears, her angst because she was never assigned to the same class as her best friend, crying through the first school performance, my missing parent conferences because I forgot (yes, I put it on the family calendar!), fighting over doing homework, feeling the guilt of not being present enough in her life because I am a working parent and the never-to-be-discussed-again COVID virtual learning still linger in my mind. Those moments felt so hard. But now that those years are over I can also truly remember and embrace her being proud of earning high grades on assignments she worked hard on, winning a prize at the book fair raffle, playing the ukelele instrumental group solo, hugging her while she screamed, "I hate compulsions!", her pure and never-ending energy playing with friends, the joy she feels with every new stuffed animal she gets (oh, there are soooo many), mustering all her courage to get through piano recitals, and every single time she opens her arms to me and says, "Hugs!" All kids have challenges in and out of school. She knows that we are here for her. She knows she is loved when she is home. I am thankful that through her elementary years, there was at least one adult my daughter trusted and felt safe with. We know your children are everything. We know that there are so many small and big moments (size of the problem!) that help them become stronger than they knew possible. At Inspire, your kids are surrounded by caring adults, who challenge them to grow in the best way possible. It doesn't mean they (your kids) and we don't get frustrated, stressed, overwhelmed. It means that we get through it together. As we near the third month of another school year, I hope your child knows this to be true - we are here for them.
Together, we are Inspire.
