August 7 - Back to School Night and Meet the Teacher
August 8 - First Day of School
Mrs. D, It's only the first week? What could my child possibly be missing if we chose to go on vacation? The short answer, EVERYTHING! Classroom routines, structure, baseline data of instructional needs, relationship building with the teacher and the class, school-wide expectations and more. Please help us help your child and plan trips around our school calendar. School is in session for 180 days a year, that leaves 51% of a calendar year to travel. Every day matters.

Forming Classes for 2024-2025
Thank you to all families who have re-registered to save a spot for their child for the 2024-2025 school year. TK and Kinder registration is also open, so let your neighbors know to sign up!
https://www.rcsdk8.org/student-registration
Mrs. D, when will I know my child's teacher for fall? Good question. On around August 6th, you will receive an email with your child's teacher. All classes are balanced and created for the best possible outcome for all students so movement is nearly impossible. With that said, as registrations come in for those moving into TJ boundaries, we may have to shuffle up until two days before, that is why we do not announce teacher names before that. Thank you for understanding.

Next Month's Rising Star Character Trait...
CITIZENSHIP
We are seeing in uptick in poor Citizenship in recent weeks. We encourage you to speak to your children about making good choices daily. Students that make poor choices lose privileges in class and on campus. Student's poor choices can negatively impact the education of others so adult intervention is often needed. We utilize restorative practices to help build and rebuild relationships, create an environment of respect and responsibility and repair harm when things go wrong.
Below are some examples of ways you can work on Citizenship at home and at school. Students that do these things regularly are given StarBucks, our reward tickets, to be added to a raffle, grade level and site based prizes.

Three Tips for Parents for State Testing (Grades 3-5)
SLEEP
BREAKFAST
Please make sure your child eats breakfast, at school (be here at 7:20am) or at home. Overly sugary things are not recommended. Protein, carbohydrates and fruit combinations work well. This will help them to have energy and to stay focused during the test.
ENCOURAGEMENT
Please encourage your student to do their best! Some students may be feeling a little anxious or nervous about the tests. Please reassure your child that they have been practicing and preparing for the entire school year, and that they are READY for this assessment.
We are all very proud of all that our students have accomplished this year. We love working with them and watching them learn and grow. We hope that with support from school and from you at home, your student will feel confident and encouraged to do their best!
