Dear Winthrop Families,
Speech and Language Update
March is feeling like the new September as we welcome several new staff members while supporting others in their transitions to new roles. This week, I’m pleased to share an update from our Speech and Language Department.
Alex Kotowski, our dedicated Speech and Language Pathologist, has been an invaluable part of our team, providing essential communication support to our students. We are incredibly grateful for her contributions and wish her the best as she transitions out of her role on Friday, March 21.
We are delighted to welcome Alison Murphy as our new Speech and Language Pathologist. Alison brings 12 years of experience as an elementary school SLP, most recently serving in Gloucester Public Schools. She has been working alongside Alex since last week to ensure a smooth transition and is eager to support our students.
If you have any questions or concerns during this transition, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support—we look forward to working together to support your child’s success!
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found is starting to feel more like just Lost—not much has been claimed lately! Please take a moment to check the picture and see if any of your child’s belongings have gone missing over the winter.
The Lost and Found will be prominently displayed next Thursday night during the Art Show and Book Fair. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity on Friday, March 28th.
Book Fair News!
The Book Fair is next week! A huge thank you to Allison Vitale, Ellen Maher, and all the volunteers who are making this event possible.
This year, we are excited to partner with a new vendor, The Bookshop of Beverly Farms! They have provided a link for families to preview some of the titles that will be available. Take a peek and start your wish lists!
March Book Madness – Week 2 Winners
-
1st Floor Winner: The Bakery Dragon by Devin Elle Kurtz
This delightful picture book tells the story of Ember, a small dragon who, unlike his peers, doesn't have a hoard of gold. Seeking his own treasure, Ember discovers a passion for baking, leading him to a different kind of richness filled with warmth and friendship. -
2nd Floor Winner: The Circles in the Sky by Karl James Mountford
In this poignant tale, Fox encounters a lifeless bird and grapples with understanding death. With the guidance of a compassionate moth, Fox learns about loss, grief, and the comforting cycles of nature, offering readers a gentle exploration of these profound themes.
Each week, we’ll announce the winners as we narrow down to the Final Four, the Championship Round, and our ultimate school winner. Stay tuned!
