AN INTRODUCTION TO MR. O'BRIEN, HCS PRE-K - 4 SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Hello,
My name is Charles O’Brien (Mr. O) and I am the new PreK-4 school counselor. I wanted to take a moment to give you a brief overview of what our school counseling program looks like this year.
As the school counselor I have the privilege of working with HCS students and I am available to help students with all sorts of different things. This can take on a variety of forms; from classroom lessons, small groups, to one-on-one check-ins. While my role is specifically focused on social emotional learning, I also support students with a wide range of topics ranging from emotion identification, self-management and self-expression to social and communication skills. We also get to do a lot of fun things, like lunch bunches, friendship building groups and more focused groups as well.
I am in charge of many different programs at HCS as well, including the SMILE Buddy program, which fosters connections between students and adults in the building. In addition, I have the pleasure of overseeing the SEED space; a special room filled with games and activities for all ages. It is a space that teachers can sign out or take small groups to have a moment of play, relaxation and celebration. As the PreK-4 school counselor at HCS I get to be a part of many great programs while also using my own background and experience to help suit our needs as a community, both inside and outside of our school walls.
If you ever want to connect with me, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your time,
Prek-4 School Counselor

PLEASE DONATE YOUR OLD, PRESCRIPTION GLASSES TO THOSE IN NEED - DROP BOX AT HCS
HOW CAN I DONATE OLD, USED GLASSES TO THOSE IN NEED?
HCS has a collection box for used, prescription glasses in the office. If you have any old glasses that you no longer need, please drop them off and we will make sure they get to the Vermont Lions Club where they will be cleaned, categorized by prescription and prepared for distribution during organized special missions to developing countries.
HOW DO THE GLASSES REACH THOSE IN NEED?
Lions and other groups organize teams of eye care professionals and volunteers who travel to developing countries all over the world to conduct vision screenings and dispense the glasses free of charge to children and adults with impaired vision.
WHY ARE THE GLASSES DISRIBUTED TO DEVELOPING NATIONS?
Because of legal constraints against dispensing used prescriptive devices in many areas of the United States, most recycled glasses are distributed in developing countries Please note that not all glasses can be reused. Those that can't are sold for their base materials and the funds earned are used by the Lions Club to fund the LERC. Nothing goes to waste!
