The 2024-25 Draft School Calendars are posted on each campus website and on the district website here.

Summer school for grades 9-12 will take place at Gateway Tech High School on June 3 - 20, 2024 from 8 AM - 1 PM Monday - Thursday. All summer school registration forms and fees are due no later than noon on Tuesday, May 28.

Based on research-based best practices, Orenda will be providing accelerated instruction for students in grades 3-8 during June. This model strives to bridge gaps and prevent a summer slide before the next school so students start are prepared for the next grade level rather than providing remediation during the following school year. Summer Blast will be by invitation only based on STAAR scores so we can target the students who are in most need of acceleration. We will be sending invitations and registration information to parents the week of May 20.

Good attendance is important for both students and schools. Students receives the maximum educational benefit by being in school every day. Studies show a strong link between academic performance and consistent daily attendance. In addition, public schools receive state funding based on daily attendance, which is essential to providing high quality instruction, support services, and extracurricular programs.

The CDC released new COVID guidance this week that amends the return to school criteria to ONLY being fever-free (fever is 100oF) for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication. More information can be found in the Orenda Return to In-Person Instruction Plan.

Advancement Via Individual Determination, AVID, is a a college readiness system implemented in K-12 at Gateway College Preparatory, Nolan Creek, and Kingsland Schools. Students learn study skills, notetaking, organization, goal setting, time management, and college readiness such as researching colleges and careers, writing college essays, and completing college applications and financial aid. Teachers implement learning strategies in the areas in of writing, inquiry, reading, organization, and collaboration to build the skills needed for not only K-12 but for postsecondary training, education, and the workforce.

During the month of February, each student at Gateway Tech High School researched and created a visual presentation celebrating the historical and cultural contributions of Black Americans.
