Huskies Have HEART Newsletter
January 12, 2025
Greetings Central Heights Students and Families,
Monday, January 13th is an A-day.
Please remind your student that we do not allow cordless headphones or airpods to be used during the school day.
We will be doing Aimsweb+ Testing this week. Please help your student get a balanced breakfast and good sleep throughout the week so that they can be at their best during this testing period. Results on your students reading and math will be shared towards the end of January.
Did you know that you can utilize Campus Portal to receive alerts when your student is marked absent or tardy? Here’s a video on how to set your campus portal notifications to receive these alerts.

A reminder for the morning drop-off lane: Please do NOT sit in your car after your student exits. Doing so prevents other students from being dropped off in a timely manner. Once it is 8:10, you should be dropping your student off and driving through the traffic loop.
Upcoming Events:
Course Expo is an opportunity for students and families to come to the high school and browse the wide variety of courses and programs we offer in our high schools. At the Course Expo teachers will be available to students and families for questions. We want students to select courses they are truly interested in and passionate about.
Course Expo at SP East - January 14 from 5:30-7:30pm - Spanish and Hmong Translation Available
Course Expo at SP West - January 21 from 5:30-7:30pm
All Central Heights students will attend EAST High School. There may be a few exceptions, depending on boundaries and open enrollment. Students, parents, and caregivers need to know the expo's date, January 14th.
Course selections and scheduling for the 2025-26 school year will take place starting in January. In preparation for this, we would like to invite you to our annual Course Expo on Tuesday, January 14th from 5:30-7:30 pm at Sun Prairie East High School or Tuesday, January 21st from 5:30-7:30 pm at Sun Prairie West High School. Snow dates are Thursday, January 16th at East and January 23rd at West from 5:30-7:30. Teachers and students from each department will be available to explain the many courses we will be offering at the high schools next year in an effort to help you select courses that are most meaningful to you and your future endeavors.
AP (Advanced Placement) night will be held in conjunction with the course expo. You will be able to hear what Advanced Classes are, the workload, expectations, and different AP classes available.
Middle School Sports Game Day Reminders: With girls basketball starting, we are sharing a reminder that all Sun Prairie students must be accompanied by their own caregiver at CHMS games. Games are not drop-off events--the caregiver must stay for the duration. Unfortunately, we will turn kids away who arrive without a caregiver. Seating is limited in the small gym--we will give seating priority to the elderly/adults/families.
Each week, we update our announcements with student club information (dates/times/room numbers). In order to join a club, students just need to attend it. If they enjoy their time in the club the first night, we’ll get them ‘rostered’ to the club and it will show up on their schedule for after school activities (similar to how sports do). CAFETERIA CONNECTION - January 2025
"Fueling Up for Learning: Why School Lunches Need Fruits & Veggies"
Hey parents!
Did you know that the government has rules about what makes a "complete" school meal? It has to include fruits or vegetables at breakfast and lunch. This is because healthy food helps kids learn better!
Here's the deal:
Complete meals = Government funding: When your child takes a complete meal (with fruit or veggies), the school gets money from the government to help cover the cost.
Incomplete meals = Costs for you: If your child refuses the fruit or veggies, the school doesn't get that funding. This means we might have to charge your account, even if your child gets free or reduced-price meals.
Lots of tasty options: We offer a variety of fruits and veggies every day, including fresh salads and always at least two fruit choices.
Why it matters:
Healthy bodies = Healthy minds: Fruits and veggies provide essential vitamins and minerals that help kids grow and learn.
Fighting childhood obesity: Eating healthy foods helps kids maintain a healthy weight.
Let's work together to make sure our kids are getting the nutrition they need to succeed in school! Encourage them to try something new from the salad bar or fruit options.
Remember: Hungry kids can't learn!
Calendar Check:
Monday, January 20th: No School - MLK Day
Monday, January 27th: No School - Professional Development Day for Staff
Tuesday, January 28th: 2nd semester begins.
In order to call your student out absent/excuse them from school, please call our attendance line: 608-318-8020.
Please keep your child home if they have symptoms of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea. Let us know (by calling: 318-8020) if they test positive for any communicable disease, such as COVID, influenza, strep, or pertussis. Your school's health assistant can provide guidance on when your child can return to school after testing positive.
