Tidbits from the President
A quilter’s life: fabric, patterns, finished quilts, in progress quilts, UFOs, orphan blocks and the ideas in your head. I’m sitting in my sewing room (so lucky to have one) looking at all those things. My room is always in various states of chaos. It’s always at its worst at the end of a project and sometimes I get the urge to ‘de-clutter’. But it’s still my happy place. I hope your quilts (in whatever state) make your happy place. Looking forward to seeing all my quilt sisters on Tuesday.
Programs
Fort Worth Quilt Guild - March Workshop and Program
Featuring JACQUELINE LEHTO
REMINDER Workshop PRECEDES Meeting: We are having a workshop on Sat. March 16th,
before the next meeting with our speaker Jackie Lehto. The class is titled: Applipiecing. Learn this wonderful method of applique that looks like pieced work, but in fact is not. If you still want to sign up for the Applipiecing, please email dorene @ dorene@dorenejoyce.com. Cost is $35.00 for members, $40 for Non-members. The workshop will be held at Hollis Threads. We have a supply list for those planning to attend, and some directions for preparing for class! I hope you will consider attending!
Program
Jacqueline Lehto is the featured speaker for our March meeting. Jackie has been quilting for over 23 years and has taught hundreds of people how to quilt in project classes, beginning to quilt classes, in junior and senior high school classes and she has taught 23 quilting camps in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Texas. You will be sure to enjoy the evening at our March meeting as she shares her wide
array of quilts, which range in style from traditional to modern, and
from realistic to abstract art quilts. The one thing that all her works have in common, however, is her love of bright colors. Her work has been juried into the American Quilters Society Des Moines
,Iowa, the Road to California Show, The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show, and the Hoffman Fabric Challenge Traveling Exhibit. She has won Viewer’s Choice on two occasions and received the Best Use of Color award. She was awarded 3rd place in the Bed Quilt Category at the 2023 Great Wisconsin Quilt Show in Madison. We know you will be inspired and motivated as Jackie shares her wonderful and colorful trunk show and her love of quilting with us.
Fort Worth Quilt Guild April Program
– Features an interactive program with Jonquele Jones who says: "April’s program is a hands-on project that I hope everyone will find both entertaining and enhances your quilting skills. This will build on last year’s color program. I’d like your help to get ready!"
Prep work --
For the MARCH meeting, please bring at least three 10”-ish scraps of fabrics that read as a single color, in any of the following color ways:
Green
Blue
Purple
I’m also trying to get a good mix of VALUES: Light-Medium-Dark.
Fabrics can be
solids,
semi-solids,
tone-on tone prints,
color-on-white,
color-with-black,
or even multi-colored prints that still read as a solid.
See the Guild facebook page for examples. I would like a lot of variety within each color.
NO WORKSHOP FOR APRIL DUE TO THE RETREAT.

Fort Worth Quilt Guild June Program:
Featuring Sharon & Loren Wilhelm -“Sashings Bold and Dangerous”
Sharon is an entrepreneur of several previous companies: Country Collectibles, Sharon’s Quilt Depot and now co-owner in Quilt Ideas pattern division. She designs blocks of the month, single patterns, punch needle, coloring and embroidery patterns and more quilting designs for Loren to make out of wood. She loves to teach anything pertaining to quilting, help quilters put together colors for new quilts and make quilts to give away. Our newest adventure is to give guild programs and workshops using our vast collection of quilts.
Loren is and has been a quilter for many years making all kinds of large, small and miniature quilts. He loves to write. He has a beautiful voice and was in radio production for 20+ years (KBOX/KMEZ Dave O’Brien) and he is a large job concrete estimator. Now he is co-owner in Quilt Ideas as a pattern designer and manufacturer of the Quilt Hangers and Accessories division.
“Sashings Bold and Dangerous” How they can make or break your design.
Sometimes we get the blocks finished and we are at a stopping point trying to decide what sashing or setting to put with those blocks. Some are so old we have to be very creative to blended the old with the new. We will give you some examples of things that just happened and some that were planned with a display of quilts.
Workshop: Barn Quilt -Crayon & Embroidery
Saturday 9 – 3 PM $35.00
Sharon will guide us in using Crayons to create a barn quilt picture.

We met on February 29 at Wanda's house and shared our experiences with in--the hoop projects. We also had an informative discussion on stabilizers which we may continue at out next meeting, Since one of our show and tell examples involved Mylar, we are going to look for additional Mylar designs this month and share our experiences next month.
The march meeting will be Thursday, March 21 at 11:30 AM at the home of Dee Ramirez. At the moment, we are sticking with Thursdays, but switching weeks to better meet the needs of our members.
Most of the meetings will be held on the north or northwest side of Fort Worth. For more information, contact Wanda at dooleymac@gmail.com or 682-560-9101 (text preferred).
FRAYED KNOTS
We meet on the second Tuesday evening of the month at Jonquele's. We are in a season of supporting each others thru challenging timepillowcases pillowcases. Grace showed her Sparkle Mystery quilt too. Peggie Herring also showed her version of the same Sparkle Mystery quilt. They were totally different. Peggie’s was shades of blue. Peggie also showed a quilt she is making for a friend. It had squares with psalms set in among the other squares. Pat Wagers showed a
yellow and blue baby quilt. Next, we were shown some small Christmas stocking she is working on. They are perfect for hanging on a tree or putting gift cards in them. Pat also made a cross stitch she plans to turn into a pillow. Cheri Bigham made each member a bag made from napkins she found at an estate sale. They were beautiful and filled with chocolate. Loved it!!! She also shared a baby quilt. Chris Tomich shared a potato chip quilt and a very scrappy quilt she was working on. She explained it to all of us—It was very complicated. Judi Janes also brought her Sparkle mystery quilt. So, three
members showed Sparkle Mystery quilts. All very different. Judi’s version was maroon, peach, and white. She also showed us a new ruler she found for making Snail’s Trail blocks.
Carolyn Hughes had a quilt top she had been working for two years. She is using a Sun Bonnet Sue pattern her mom hand drew for her years ago. Cecilla Villa presented a Valentine quilt made with a Twisted ruler. She had also made a table topper she made from 5 inch squares.
We are a busy group.
The afternoon ended with a wonderful strawberry Nothing Bundt cake, the rest of the snacks, and a game of Left Right Center. Miss Peggie won the red fat quarters this month. These are wonders ladies and I’m very lucky to be a member of this group.
Start a BEE
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.

A big thank you to the members who turned in fabric, blocks, a finished quilt, and a quilt kit at the February meeting. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
I will have more block kits made up for anyone wanting to work on them.
We have a Quilts of Valor Ceremony scheduled for March 29th, 3:30 pm at American Legion Post 516, 6801 Manhattan Blvd. Fort Worth, TX 76120.

Cecilia Buckholz
QOV Group Leader
If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Cook Children's. Cook's is always very grateful for the gifts.
Quilts of Valor
JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts
One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.

Help your Newsletter Editors !!!
After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text or JPG pictures. We can attach pdf documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device in order to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files which contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.
