GCPS names the 2025 School Social Worker of the Year!

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has named Renee Lake the 2025 GCPS School Social Worker of the Year (SSWOTY). The award honors an individual who exemplifies the highest level of service and professionalism to their school community. Lake, assigned to the Peachtree Ridge Cluster, has worked in GCPS for three years and says her success has been built on trust. “Building strong, trusting relationships has been the foundation of my career as a social worker,” Lake shares. In addition to providing compassionate, culturally competent support to students and families, Lake has contributed to her learning community by taking the initiative to develop a CARE closet, a pantry that provides donated items to families in need.

Kindergarten Registration opens March 24

Will your child be 5 years old by September 1? If yes, it’s almost time to register for kindergarten! Starting on Monday, March 24, you'll be able to create your parent account and confirm your email address and password, and you can upload your required documents with your phone or computer, or bring them to the school. You’ll find a list of required documents on the New Student Enrollment webpage.


You can register your child in-person at the Centerville Kindergarten Registration event on March 27, from 1–5 p.m. at the Centerville Community Center at 3025 Bethany Church Road in Snellville. All Gwinnett families are welcome, and there will be opportunities for health screenings and immunizations, as well as activities and story time.

Rising Kindergartners at some schools can enroll in Dual Language Immersion

If your rising kindergartner attends one of these elementary schools, you can apply to include them in the Dual Language Immersion program. Students learn in both English and another language, encouraging fluency in both. Learn more at a Rising Kindergartner Information Meeting.

The 47th Annual Gwinnett Regional Science, Engineering, and Innovation Fair is the largest regional fair in the nation. Even bigger than ever, this year's fair hosted about 800 student projects from nearly 1,600 students representing over 115 schools. Supported by business and educational partners, as well as volunteers from across the Gwinnett community, the Science Fair provides invaluable professional development for students and inspires them to pursue impactful careers in STEM fields.

Berkmar Middle students create exhibit exploring ancient Egypt

Berkmar Middle School's teachers and students collaborated to create an interactive and immersive historical experience. The hands-on Ancient Egypt exhibition showcased artifacts, native animals, ancient Egyptian symbols, and historical displays, all crafted by the students under their teachers' guidance.

South Gwinnett High School students recently had the opportunity to participate in a “Live From Surgery”- Kidney Transplant. This immersive surgical experience brought them into the heart of a life-changing medical procedure. The school’s Health and Human Service Academy teamed up with Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and the Liberty Science Center to provide students with this learning opportunity.

South Gwinnett HS students selected as finalists for The Home Depot National Case Competition

The D.I.Y. Visionaries at South Gwinnett HS garnered national recognition as one of four finalists to compete in The Home Depot National Case Competition. Earlier in March, the school’s 3DE student team, known as the D.I.Y. (do it yourself) Visionaries, tied for first place with its innovative solution, “Test It Yourself.”

Members of the Marketing Menaces team competed against two teams from Florida and one team from Indiana. This competition challenges students to apply real-world problem-solving skills, a key focus of the 3DE instructional model, which empowers students through experiential learning and business case studies.

State Superintendent recognizes GCPS schools for leadership in math and literacy

On March 13, Georgia State Superintendent Richard Woods visited Gwinnett County Public Schools to recognize schools for excellence in literacy and math. The ceremony honored 12 Literacy Leader Schools and 50 Math Leader Schools as designated by the Georgia Department of Education.
