NO SCHOOL FEB 26th THROUGH MAR 1st (WINTER BREAK)
MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and Charlotte Community,
On this Friday before February break, I am wondering how we fit so much into our week.
- 2024 CCS Spelling Bee - On Wednesday Feb 21, CCS had the School Spelling Bee for grades 3-8. There were 32 participants and went for 15 rounds with the winner word being “turquoise”. Congratulations to all the spellers who worked so hard. The top three spellers: Lucy Palmer, Matilda McCracken, and Annie Palmer are eligible to participate in the Vermont State Bee at Middlebury College on March 28th, 2024 at 3 PM. This is an event open to the public. Feel free to attend to cheer for our CCS Spelling Champions!
- CCS Theater- Students in 6-8th grade met with our theater director and the leader of Full Circle Theater to plan for the CCS Spring production. Students who enjoy spending time with others, accessing their creativity and participating in a memorable experience are encouraged to engage. More information about the play, the tryout materials and the timeline leading up to the production will be emailed soon.
I feel honored to be in a school where students can shine through their talents and passions, where community members are dedicated to creating and sustaining enriching opportunities for students and where educators are responsive to the diverse needs of all students. Charlotte Central School is a pretty special place and I know we can work with all of you to continuously improve and refine the vision of learning for our K-8 students. Thank you for your partnership and trust in this commitment.
I hope next week is everything you need it to be.
Kind regards,
Jen Roth, Principal
CVSD's PROPOSED 2024-2025 BUDGET UPDATE
At the February 20, 2024, school board meeting, the board voted to adopt the finance committee’s recommendation to move forward with the originally warned budget that they spent more than six months reviewing and evaluating.
We've updated the Budget page of the district's website to reflect this decision and to provide information to help voters learn more about the proposed 2024-2025 budget. Please see the items below on that page, along with additional resources.
- At the meeting, CVSD Board vice chair and finance committee chair Meghan Metzler read this statement to begin the discussion.
- After the meeting, Superintendent Sanchez shared this letter.
- Here are some budget highlights in a Frequently Asked Questions format to help our community understand important elements of the proposed budget.
- On Wednesday, February 21, the district's administration and school board hosted a virtual Budget Town Hall. These slides were shared at that event.
- Here is the recording from the Budget Town Hall
Please contact any of the CVSD School Board members with questions. Send an email to cvsdschoolboard@cvsdvt.org or use the School Board or Budget topics on Let’s Talk, found on the district’s website. https://www.cvsdvt.org/

LOST AND FOUND
We had a staff member (thank you, Donna Fraser-Leary) lay out all of the lost and found across the lobby and then the teachers sent the students down to look through it. It was great to see them "find their lost items". So much of it was claimed, we will NOT be donating anything that is remaining. I'm sure we'll be full up again for the April break, so continue to have your child(ren) check the lost and found or feel free to stop in and check anytime the front office is open.
CVSD DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DEI) TEAM
Join the CVSD Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Team as we celebrate diversity and connect with the diverse cultures of our community. At these in-person events, we will learn the history of the various communities in Vermont. There will be shared cultural experiences, including art, food, and conversations about educational experiences. At each gathering various groups, community members, and stakeholders will present about their lives, work, and contributions to our state.
The next DEI event takes place on March 15 from 6-8 pm at Williston Central School where we'll be learning about the Somali community in Vermont. This event takes place during Ramadan. Come experience a traditional break-the-fast meal.
