English Class for Parents
Our community Partner, Faith Community Church, is offering a beginning English classes to Burroughs' parents. They will be meeting at the school on November 6, 12 & 19 from 2:00 PM - 3:15 PM. To register please contact Shelly at 352-459-1570. Cost is $10
November Volunteer Opportunities
Burroughs needs your help! We have spaces to volunteer during lunch, recess, for the Bees Buck Store and as a reading buddy. If you have some free time during the school day we'd love to have your help!
Lunch/Recess Duty
Burroughs Staff could use your help during Lunch and Recess.
Helping with lunch duty would mean helping open kids cartons/food packaging, reminding student's to follow the rules and cleaning up minor spills.
Recess Duty would mean reminding students to follow the rules, playing with students and ensuring all students are being safe while at recess.
Bees Buck Store
Burroughs staff need help assisting to students spend their Bee's Bucks in the school store. Each student earns points for good behavior and can spend their points at the store.
Reading Buddies
We are looking for reading buddies to help our 2nd grade students! You'll meet with 1 student on Tuesdays from 12-1PM. You will be trained and background checked through our partner, Children's Tutoring Initiative. If you are interested in being a reading buddy click here for more information:

Before and After School Care
Students cannot be dropped off at Burroughs before 8:45 AM and must be picked up between 3:15-3:30 PM every day.
If you need additional care for your student, Columbus City Schools provides before and after school care for elementary students through the Latchkey program. The closest Latchkey location is Westgate Elementary. There are spaces available and a bus already runs between Westgate and Burroughs. Care is provided between 7-9AM and 3-6PM. You can find more details and program costs here.

Anonymously Report Safety Concerns 24/7
The Safer Ohio School Tip Line is a free safety resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts tips via call, text, webform, and mobile app 24 hours-a-day. Anyone can download the Safer Ohio School Tip Line app or use the webform.
This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety. Learn more at https://ohioschoolsafetycenter.ohio.gov/

Free Pathway Express Event
Join Columbus City Schools’ Pathway Express for free on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (4850 W Powell Rd., Powell, OH 43065), for a day full of exploring STEM and Zoology!
Registration for the event opens Monday, November 18 at noon!

During December’s Pathway Express event, learning will be centered around Critical Thinking, a key quality in our Portrait of a Graduate. This means helping our students analyze and apply evidence-based reasoning to understand “big picture” challenges and how solutions affect other parts of a system.

Ticket registration begins on Monday, November 18 at noon.
Free transportation is provided! Buses will shuttle families from Northland, Walnut Ridge, South, and West High Schools to the zoo and back. Buses will depart from each school at 3:00 p.m. and will depart the zoo at 8:00 p.m. to drop families back off at the school that evening.
Join Us for CCS Night at the Cavs vs. Golden State Warriors Game
Join the Cleveland Cavaliers for Columbus City Schools Night on Friday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. vs Golden State Warriors at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, 1 Center Court, Cleveland, OH 44115. Everyone who purchases game tickets will be entered into a raffle to hold the big flag on the court during the singing of the National Anthem.

School Out: Fall Break with the Rec & Parks!
Do your students need something to do during fall break? Look no further than your local community center! School’s Out Fall opens community centers for extended hours during Columbus City Schools’ fall break with community centers will open Nov. 25-29 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Registration opens on October 29 at 12:30 p.m. so make sure you sign up!

- Reading Buddies, 15 minutes of one-on-one reading practice for K-3 students

John Burroughs is a Title I School
- John Burroughs is a Title I school that receives Federal Title I funding to support academic achievement.
- Title I funding is spent on supplies, materials, staffing, and programs to support student achievement.
- As a parent of a student attending a school that is receiving Federal Title I dollars, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the teacher(s) and instructional paraprofessional(s) who instruct your child. Federal law requires every Title I school district to comply and to provide you with the requested information in a timely manner. We are happy to provide this information to you. School Absence Reporting
Parents need to call, email, or complete the online Student Absence Form for the school by 9:00
AM to report student absences. Upon return from an absence, the following procedure is to be
followed: (if the parent did not complete the online Student Absence Form already)
A written note signed by the parent, stating date(s) of and reason(s) for absence from school. Please send the note to school with your child the day they return to school.

School Sign-out Procedures
If you need to sign-out a student during the school day, please be aware of the following procedures that keep your student safe at school:
IDENTIFICATION IS REQUIRED WHEN SIGNING OUT A STUDENT.
Any students being picked up early must be signed out by a relative / adult that is listed in Infinite Campus. Parent's can list adults allowed to pick-up their student in the Parent Portal. If an unlisted adult needs to pick up a student, the listed Guardian MUST call the school office at 614-365-5923.
Starting April 7, 2023, Ohioans who are 17 years and older can receive an ID card at no cost. https://publicsafety.ohio.gov/static/free-ID-palm-card.pdf
Students cannot be signed out between 2:45-3:15 PM. School dismissal is at 3:15. Thank you for helping us keep kids safe during dismissal.
