Per the Department of Public Health, an updated copy of your child’s most recent physical exam is required to be submitted to the school nurse in Grades K, 4, 7, and 10. Please submit your fourth grade child’s most recent physical exam to Julie Stiles, SRS nurse. You can submit it one of three ways:

1. Send a copy into school in a sealed envelope labeled “School Nurse.”

2. Email a copy to me at: jstiles@mpsd.org.

3. Call your pediatrician’s office and ask the nurse to fax “the most recent physical exam to the school nurse” at: FAX: 339-244-2197.

Any physical dated after June of 2023 will work. Thank you for your cooperation!

Great news! Registration for our Summer Science Academy is now open! The Science Academy offers one-week STEM classes for students entering grades 7-12 in the fall (students currently in grades 6-11). These dynamic programs inspire students to explore diverse fields of science and technology through hands-on projects, building a strong foundation for future academic and career success.

*We used to think that 'sight words' were words children just had to memorize by sight, so we would drill them with flashcards, or have them write the words over and over.

*We now know that a sight word is any word a person recognizes by sight, and the goal is for as many words as possible to become sight words so that our brains are freed up to focus on comprehension.

*In order to orthographically map words onto our brains, we need to match the letters to the spoken sounds, which we do by tapping out sounds, using sound boxes, and thinking about the tricky part in some words which we have to remember by heart.

*While some children will map a word after only a few exposures, others need to map the worddozens of times before it becomes a sight word. This is why we tell children that just like sports or instruments, the more they practice reading, the better they get!
