BMSS Family Newsletter
2024-2025
From the Principal
October 4, 2024
Dear Charger Families,
As we wrap up the first nine weeks, I want to encourage you to check your students grades. We have many students with missing work who have not turned things in to the teacher. It's difficult for teachers to grade, enter grades, and communicate with students how they are doing when the work is not there. You can download the Skyward app right on your phone, and help monitor how your child is doing. As a parent myself, I use this pretty often! 😀
Thank you for your help!
Hiring:
We are desperate for Teaching Assistants. We currently have 3 Teaching Assistant Vacancies on our campus. Two positions would work directly with the classroom teacher and help with implementing student accommodations. One position would be an ISS Aide (In School Suspension). Basically if a student commits a discipline offense that warrants ISS, we need an Aide to help monitor the student. If you or someone you know in the community is dependable, good with kids, and would be a good fit in BISD, please reach out to me and/or apply. Pep Rally:
We are hosting our PINK OUT Pep Rally on Monday, October 7th at 3:15pm in the gym. We will have the entire student body in the gym. Parents, you are welcome to attend, but please know that seating is very limited. You are more than welcome to stand on the side of the gym, once we run out of seating. Students/Teachers seating are the priority. We will be recognizing Fall Sports: Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, and Sapphires Dance Team.
Short Week:
Next week is a short week. We know many families have plans to travel. If you are picking your child up early, please do so after 10:00am. This would help us with our attendance and receive the appropriate funding.
Have a great weekend!

Attendance Matters
8th Graders Taking High School Credit Courses
State Compulsory Attendance Law requires students to be in class at least 90% of the time.
An 8th Grader with more than 4 absences in a High School Course in a semester, will have to make up time to receive credit for that class, regardless of their grade.
Make up Time Options Are:
- Tutoring with a teacher from 8:00am-8:30am or after 4:00pm. These times must be prearranged with the teacher.
- Saturday School - Dates to be announced later in the semester.
The following absence types count AGAINST them for credit:
- "E-DND" - Doctors Note, absent all day
- "E" - Parent Note
- "F" - Funeral
- "U" - Unexcused
Attendance Hours cannot be made up while participating/practicing/rehearsing in extracurricular activities.
The Credit Recovery Log is available in the Front Office.
Please remember your student's attendance is available for review in Skyward.
Do not hesitate to contact your student's Assistant Principal should you have any attendance questions.

From the Nurse
Medication Administration
Nurses were informed at the beginning of the year that according to the Texas Board of Nursing, they are no longer allowed to provide OTC medication such as Tylenol, Motrin, cough syrup, etc. with parent permission. You must have a medical practitioner's signature on our form. All forms were updated at the beginning of the year to require this signature. Updated forms can be obtained from the Nurse's Office.
Thank you!
