High School Back2School Info
2024-2025 School Year
Welcome Back!
We are excited to welcome you back on Wednesday, August 21, 2024!
Since there is no orientation for 10th-12th grade students (New Student/Freshmen Orientation is Wednesday, August 14 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.), we want to ensure you have all the information you need before returning to school. We hope this newsletter answers any questions you may have.
The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 21. The school day runs from 7:40 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., which is new this year. Students being dropped off, walking, or driving should enter through door #1 on the north side (doors will open to students at 7:20 a.m.). You can view daily and half-day schedules on our website anytime.
Our school handbooks are available to view or download from our website. If you have any other questions, please reach out to our main office at hssupport@csredhawks.org or 616-696-1200. We look forward to seeing all our students back on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 21!
Stay up, have a blessed day, and go Cedar!

New Backpack and Bag Policy
Based on feedback from staff, students, and parents, our backpack and bag policy was revised and submitted to the Board of Education for review. The following update was approved, and our new policy for 2024-2025 High School and New Beginnings students, located in both the High School and New Beginnings Handbook, is as follows:
Backpacks, book bags, athletic bags, large purses, etc., are prohibited in all classrooms. Students may only use backpacks, book bags, athletic bags, etc. to carry items to and from the building. Students requiring accommodations regarding these items are encouraged to talk with their case manager/counselor for assistance.
This change is to enhance safety and improve classroom space and arrangement.

Cell Phone Garages
To reduce the distraction of having immediate access to their phones, a cell phone garage will be available for students who bring personal devices into the classroom. Outside of specific instructions from staff, students are not permitted to use their phones or similar personal communication devices during instructional periods.
For more information, please visit our High School and New Beginnings Handbook for the complete cell phone policy.
Locker Number and Combinations
New this year: Locker numbers and combinations are now visible on the PowerSchool Task Bar on the left side of students' Chromebook screens. Students will receive their locker numbers and combinations once their schedule is available in PowerSchool. We encourage students to come to school during office hours to practice their locker combinations.
Freshman Chromebook Distribution
Freshmen will receive their Chromebooks in math classrooms during the first few days of school. New or transfer students who need a Chromebook can visit the office to see Mr. Dodds from 7 a.m. to noon once school starts.
Parking Permits
Vehicle registration and parking permits are required to park at CSHS.
Parking permits are $10 and available to students by filling out the ‘Cedar Springs High School Parking Permit Application’ and returning it to the main office during business hours. All previously registered vehicles must re-register this school year.
Lunch Account
Please visit the Family Portal and click on ‘my account’ to set up your student’s lunch account and add money if you haven't already. Any remaining money from last year will still be in the student’s account.
Transportation Information
Busing information was mailed to registered students last week. If you do not receive information by Wednesday, August 14, and your student plans to take the bus, please contact the Transportation Department at 616-696-1450 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. -5 p.m.).
No transportation changes can be made between 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, and 9 a.m. Wednesday, 21, 2024.
Student Photos
Student photos will be taken at Cedar Springs High School on Tuesday, Aug 27 (retake day on Friday, September 27).
As a result of the "green screen" technology Jostens employs, please don't allow your student to wear green for their photos as the technology will make clothing disappear into the background. You may preview your pictures on-line, personalize backgrounds, and pay for the photos and packages you'd like at jostenspix.com; photos will be shipped directly to you. The High School event code is FE258824.
Forms for Parents
Medication/Treatment and Consent Form
Students may carry one dose of over-the-counter medication, such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Vaseline, Neosporin, cough drops, or eye drops. Alternatively, medication can be dispensed by school staff once the medical authorization form is completed.
To obtain a Medication Permission form, please visit the school office, our website, or contact Nurse Dailey directly via email. This form must be submitted and approved before any medication can be brought to school or dispensed. Please note that our school does not provide over-the-counter medications; parents or guardians must supply any medications their child might need during school hours.
Education Benefits Form (one per family) (Requested)
We ask all parents and guardians to fill out the Education Benefits form to help our district secure state and federal funding for our programs, supporting instructional staff, teaching supplies, counselors, social workers, school nurses, professional learning, parent and community activities, and technology.
