I hope this message finds you well. Below are some important updates and reminders for the upcoming weeks.

PBIS Event – October 4th
Our next PBIS event will take place on October 4th during students’ elective time. Students can use their PBIS points to participate in the following activities:

• Soccer at Jim Barnett Park: 150 points
• Basketball and Volleyball in the gym: 125 points
• Dance Party: 100 points
• Movie in the auditorium: 75 points
• Art Activities: 50 points
• Board Games/Silent Reading: Free

Please encourage your student to check their point balance and plan for the activity they would like to attend! They will purchase activities on September 30th. Once they purchase, they may not exchange for another activity.

Camping Family Literacy Night – October 10th
Our division is excited to host Camping Community Night at DMIS on October 10th from 5:30–7:00 PM. This event is open to all families of students in grades K-6. There will be literacy activities and fun for the whole family! Please RSVP by using the code in the image posted below.

Headphones
As a reminder, our students use their Chromebooks daily for various classroom activities. The school provides wired headphones or earbuds for students to use. However, if your child prefers to bring their own, they are welcome to do so as long as they are wired and not Bluetooth accessible. Thank you for your support in ensuring students are prepared for learning.

PBIS Goal: Keeping Hands and Feet to Ourselves
We are focusing on the PBIS goal of keeping all hands and feet to ourselves. Unfortunately, many students are struggling with this, and we need your help reinforcing this at home. Safety is our top priority, and if a student is having an issue, they should immediately report it to an adult. Please remind your child that physical contact, even during horseplay with friends, can be unsafe, and consequences will be enforced in alignment with our Code of Conduct.

October 4th- PBIS Event during Electives

• Tell me something you know today that you didn’t know yesterday.
• What is something that challenged you?
• How did someone fill your bucket today? Whose bucket did you fill?

Our SEL curriculum is currently focusing on building student self awareness. One way to help your child grow in this area is to encourage them to keep a journal. Promise not to read it and keep that promise. Allowing your child an outlet to describe what their feeling and thinking can help them verbalize their feelings. Having those emotions and thoughts written down will also help your child identify patterns and causes. If your child often writes about feeling excited by an upcoming sports game or travel, your child may recognize those events as triggers for their emotions. Neurologist Judy Willis recommends also providing a separate response journal where your child can write down feelings and ask questions that you respond to. Writing down thoughts may be a more comfortable way for your child to discuss feelings than actually speaking about them.
