The Connection Week 1 Term 3
Huapai District School 28th July 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Welcome to Term 3.
Welcome to our new families and children.
It has been fabulous to hear from the children about the various things they have done over the break. Just getting out and doing stuff helps so much in normalising the essence of what it is to be a kid, a family and just being human. Just those special moments with you - well done for investing in what’s important.
Our school is in such good heart. We have good people doing great things, we have children at the centre of our decision making and we have some really powerful curriculum and programming initiatives coming through. We have a great leadership team, we have solid and progressive systems and processes, we have staff influencing education beyond our school and we have staff bringing colour and opportunities for our children.
I can think of no better time to put your hand up to be part of our school. We have school board elections coming up and nominations closing next Wednesday. Please consider putting your hand up to add to what we are doing and where we are going - details below.
As you will have seen we are back with masks, we have a good supply of these for children and are encouraging them to swap these out regularly throughout the day. It does seem this coming term may present some challenges in managing COVID, sickness and absence but we are up for it and we have got this in hand. We are promoting and encouraging the use of masks from Year 3 and up. Thank you for the support we have here. Details below if you wish for your child to be exempt from wearing a mask.
Have a great week.
John Petrie
Principal

- Wednesday 3rd August - School Board Nominations Close
- Wednesday 7th September - School Board Election Day
School Board Parent Election 2022
Get your nominations in NOW.
Nominations Close Next Wednesday 3rd August at 12 noon.
Our school is undertaking a parent election for our School Board. This process has already started with the issuing of nomination papers to our caregiver community.
We are required to employ an outside company to undertake the election process and we have employed CES on our behalf.
You will have already received an email directly from CES on the 15th of July (it will appear in your inbox as sent by "noreply", titled, "CES 2022 School Board Elections - Nominations Now Open").
In this email there was a nomination form and full instructions about how to place nominations into our school’s election website. If we don’t have your email address in our records, then you would have received this information by post.
Please check your spam folder (or deleted emails) in the first instance. Nomination papers will also be available at the school office if you are unable to retrieve the email. We will send those on to CES for processing upon receipt from candidates.
You are able to nominate yourself or someone else.
Election day is Wednesday 7th September.
We look forward to your participation in this process.
Student Of The Week
Kassie (Year 2) says: "Our school is the best school. The teachers are kind and fun. My favourite things to do are to go on the monkey bars and the computers. I like learning maths times tables. More kids should come to Huapai School cause it’s really good!"
NorthWest Rewards
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our school by dropping a ping pong ball into NorthWest Shopping Centre.
What an amazing community! Together our school earned $1000.
Masks
If your child has an exemption card, a letter from their health provider, or you have advised the school that mask wearing is not practicable for them, we will support this. For matters relating to mask exemption, please contact kelly.charteris@hds.school.nz.
IMPORTANT Change To Your Kindo Account Holder Terms
As per the email Kindo sent out on 25th July, please note that as of 31st July Kindo will no longer be able to return unspent funds/credit to you in ‘cash’.
What do you need to do now?
If you've got plenty of time with children at our school - you can choose not to do anything. As our school uses ezlunch, any credit can be used to purchase lunches throughout their time here.
If you're about to move on to a non-ezlunch, non-Kindo school AND you have a credit balance - plan to spend it before you leave or withdraw it before the terms change on 31st July. You can withdraw using the 'top up account' page.
Moving forward, only top up what you need for each transaction and remember to stop any direct credits.
Reminder: We now use HERO for all in-school related costs, eg. school camps, school donations etc. So please do not plan to use any credit towards these costs, as we can not

If you are able to help on any day, please email kirstin.robinson@hds.school.nz (please note, your child does not need to be a road patroller).

It also provides an opportunity for children to meet and make new friends.
Would you like to be part of our breakfast club team?
Could you offer half an hour a week to help serve the children and clean up?
We’d love to hear from you. Please email Stephanie on stephanie.wales@hds.school.nz or pop into Studio 2 for a chat.
100 Days At School
This Thursday marked 100 days at school. This is a wonderful reason to celebrate - especially given the last few interrupted years we have had. There were lots of little old men and little old women here at school. Thank you to the Year 2 teachers for driving this initiative. It is one we hope to introduce as an annual event. Thank you to Jenifer Anne photography for taking some stunning photos!
