News from Mr. Kern
Dear LSH Elementary Families,
I hope this message finds you all doing well! I have a few important reminders and updates to share in this edition of our family newsletter:
Cold Weather Clothing
As temperatures drop, please send your child to school with warm clothing. Our policy is for all students to go outside for recess unless the temperature falls below zero degrees. Unfortunately, we’ve noticed some students arriving in shorts and t-shirts and shivering during recess. Your help in ensuring your child is dressed warmly is greatly appreciated—we want everyone to stay comfortable while enjoying the outdoors!Thank You for Attending Fall Conferences
A big thank-you to all the families who joined us for fall conferences! We had a fantastic turnout, and we value this time to connect with you. If you were unable to attend, please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time that works for both of you. Our goal is for every family to receive an update on their child's progress.Open House Success
Thank you to everyone who attended our November 2nd Open House! We loved seeing so many of you explore our beautiful building. Your support makes our school community so special.Turkey Bingo Donations Needed
We’re excited for our upcoming Turkey Bingo event on November 26th, but we still need prizes! If you’d like to contribute, please bring your donation to the main office. Every little bit helps, and we’re grateful for your generosity.Visitor Check-In Reminder
For everyone’s safety, all visitors must stop by the main office to check in—no matter the time of your visit. Once checked in, you’ll receive a visitor sticker to wear while in the building. If a staff member asks you to return to the office to check in, please don’t take offense—they’re simply following our safety protocols. Thank you for helping us maintain a secure environment for our students and staff.
Finally, as we prepare for the long, cold winter ahead, I hope you all stay warm and safe. Thank you for your ongoing involvement in your child's education—our partnership is vital to their success.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Principal Kern

Wonders of Nature
2nd Sundays at the Minneapolis Institute of Art are free family days:
This November, celebrate the wonders of nature! In honor of Native American Heritage Month, make art with Native artist Heather Friedli. Make your own fish-themed artwork (and use texture plates to give it scales!) alongside Mia teaching artists. Join local author John Coy and illustrator Chris Park for a reading and signing of their new book So Cold! Enjoy a performance by Wood N’ Wind before strolling about the galleries on a gallery hunt.
News from the Nurse
News from the Nurse
Cold and flu season is upon us. I thought it might be helpful to re-share our exclusion guidelines for illness. Please, it is requested that parents report any contagious diseases to the school as soon as possible. If your student is ill with something not on the list below, the length of exclusion will be determined by the school nurse.
General Exclusion Guidelines for Illness
24 hours fever free without the use of fever-reducing medication prior to returning. A fever is considered 100℉ or higher.
24 hours without diarrhea prior to returning.
24 hours without vomiting prior to returning.
If a student has a rash for which the cause is unknown, check with your doctor prior to sending them to school.
If a student is unable to participate in routine activities at school due to illness (ie. severe coughing, tiredness, etc.) they should remain home until 24 hours of symptom improvement.
Specific Disease Exclusion
COVID/Influenza: 24 hours fever free without the use of fever-reducing medications
and be generally well enough to participate in routine activities.
Pink Eye: No exclusion. As long as the student does not have a fever and is
well enough to participate in routine activities, they may attend school.
Strep Throat:12 hours of antibiotics; also need to be 24 hours fever-free without the use of
fever-reducing medications.
Head Lice: A student will be sent home for treatment if live lice are found. Classroom
screenings are not currently practiced, it is the responsibility of parents to
perform routine screenings at home.

covered.
Hand, Foot, and Mouth: 24 hours fever free without the use of fever-reducing
