How are we at March already?
We are now into March and the next three weeks will fly by leading upto Spring Break!
We truly appreciated the parents that took the time to meet with the teachers this week for Parent/Teacher Interviews to celebrate the growth of the students this term.
In this upcoming week, we will introduce our Lenten project to the students. This project will be part of the GSACRD support for Catholic Social Services. Watch for more information in next week's WAAG.

Lemonade University (Lemonade Day Nothern Alberta)
Lemonade University is coming to our elementary classrooms at Legal School next week.
Lemonade University is a youth entrepreneurship program that teaches business skills using a lemonade Stand as a business model. They will come into the classes and use a workbook or app to guide the kids through everything they need to create a business plan for their lemonade stand. From there kids can take home info to their parent or guardian who can register them for the public event of Lemonade Day, this is a day when kids can set up Lemonade Stands in participating Lemonade Day towns and actually run their businesses.
Here is a link to the website for more information. https://lemonadeday.org/northern-alberta/partners
This ties in well with the Financial Literacy component of the Physical Educations & Wellness Curriculum along with follow-up learning from the One School, One Book Project - The Lemonade War. We are hoping some of our students will use this learning to participate in Lemonade Day on June 15, 2024.
International Women’s Day
On March 8th, 2024 it is International Women’s Day. On this day and others, we celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality. Check out these awesome ways to actively celebrate International Women’s Day!
Wear purple on Wednesday:
Throw on your purple shirts, shorts, socks, and hats. Purple is the official colour of International Women’s Day!
Do something kind for a girl or woman you admire:
Write a note, make a phone call, say “thank you”, or offer help - support the girls and women in your life by doing something nice for them.
Watch a girl power film or listen to music by female artists:
There are so many awesome movies that show the strength of girls and women. Here are a few to choose from: Matilda, Brave, Little Women, Mulan, Tangled, Frozen, Anne of Green Gables, Wizard of Oz, Tottoro, Lilo & Stitch, Mary Poppins, and Bend it Like Beckham. These movies are a wonderful tool to use when having conversations with your kids about International Women’s Day!
Read about inspirational women:
Head to the library or grab your computer and search for some amazing women. Here are a few inspirational females to start: Marie Curie, Mother Teresa, Malala Yousifazi, Venus & Serena Williams, and Kenojuak Ashevak.
Make something purple!
Bake a purple cake, or create a piece of art with all shades of purple - display that art proudly!

Lenten Campaign to fundraise for Catholic Social Services
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free..’”
(Luke 4:17-19)
This Lent, all GSACRD school communities are participating in the annual GSACRD Lenten Campaign to fundraise for Catholic Social Services in support of Immigration and Settlement Services, and the Refugee Relief Fund. In particular we are supporting a program called Parenting In Two Cultures.
Parenting in Two Cultures helps refugees, immigrants and multicultural families learn how to adapt to Canadian culture. This program provides guidance on how to raise healthy-happy families and their children as they build their new lives in Canada, while maintaining their ethnic identity. This program also helps participants connect with other parents and children who may be facing similar challenges.
Watch for more details next week about our Lenten Service Project.
