LTSD Career Services
December 2024
Dear LTSD Students & Families,
December has arrived, and with it comes holiday cheer and some truly amazing career opportunities! We're thrilled to introduce Career Experts in the Classroom, a new initiative bringing real-world professionals into various classrooms to share their experiences and inspire our students. Last month, high school students loved hearing from children's author Judi Jessick in Creative Writing and content creator Addison O'Connor in Photography. This month, we're excited to welcome a K9 officer (and their canine partner!) to Forensic Science and an Engineer to Computer Science.
Our Career Café series for students in grades 6-12 continues this month with three incredible speakers: Matt Bower in construction (December 5), Paul Roma in cyber security engineering (December 12), and E.P. Klopp, an author (December 19). These sessions are perfect for students looking to explore career paths and connect with local professionals.
Let's finish 2024 strong by embracing all the wonderful opportunities December offers! 🙂

November Highlights
November was packed with excitement, learning, and incredible opportunities for our Loyalsock students!
- Senior Success: Seniors currently enrolled in English updated and edited their resumes, sharpened their interview skills, and participated in professional mock interviews with members of our local community. These real-world experiences gave our students valuable tools for their next steps.
- Visit with an Author: Career Services made its debut at Schick Elementary with the kickoff of our "Schick Storytellers" series! Author Judi Jessick read her book, Agatha Livermore and the Magic Cookie Spoon, to all six kindergarten classes. Afterward, she inspired our high school Creative Writing students by sharing her journey to becoming a published author.
- Women’s Entrepreneurship Day: On November 19, twenty students at the High School visited eight local women-owned businesses for an inspiring day filled with stories, advice, and wisdom from trailblazing women entrepreneurs. What a great day!
From kindergarten to senior year, it was a blast getting to connect with students across all three buildings!

What is Career Café?
Professionals from various careers within our community will come in to discuss their career with our middle and high school students during their lunch periods (and Lancer Period for HS students). Students are required to sign up for these events in advance. They can find the flyer/QR code to sign up outside of the HS & MS office, cafeteria, and guidance area.
Some things our guests might share during Career Cafe:
- Required training and/or education
- What a typical work day looks like
- Things they love about what they do, and some things they might not enjoy about they do
- Important things students can do NOW to set themselves up for success in a similar career
WHO: Any student in grades 6-12 can sign up to attend Career Cafe.
WHEN: During student lunches with the likelihood of going into Lancer Period (for HS students only). Typically, at least one professional will visit every 2 weeks.
WHERE: Students will be expected to immediately get their lunch in the cafeteria and report to room H7 for the presentation.
WHY: This is an awesome opportunity for students to learn about different careers and connect with professionals in our community. Students will also have the opportunity to ask any questions they have about a career they are potentially interested in pursuing.

Schick Storytellers
In November, we proudly launched an exciting new initiative called Schick Storytellers, bringing local authors to our elementary students to share their stories and inspire a love for reading. Last month, we were thrilled to welcome author Judi Jessick, who captivated all six kindergarten classes with her delightful book, Agatha Livermore and the Magic Cookie Spoon. The joy continues in December as we host local author Brenda Lukasiewicz, who will share her enchanting story, Dream Wings: Sweet Dreams, with our first and second graders. Adding to the excitement, Brenda will lead a special drawing lesson, teaching students how to bring her beloved character, Mikey, to life on paper. We are so excited to continue fostering creativity and literacy through Schick Storytellers!

Upcoming - Lancer Opportunity Expo
Attention: Lancer Opportunity Career Expo is coming to the Middle & High School campus in March 2025!
We invite local professionals and businesses to join us in inspiring our students at the upcoming Lancer Opportunity Expo! This exciting school-wide event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your career field and share job openings with the next generation of talent.
The Career Expo will give students in grades 6-12 an inside look at various careers and opportunities in our community, while high school students (grades 9-12) will also explore the Job Fair to connect with local employers. They’ll learn about job opportunities available to them as students, as well as positions perfect for graduating seniors.
