Riverside Student and Parent Open House
August 19, 2024 4:30 - 6:30 PM
Click here for a map of our school
The Student and Parent Open House is coming up! This event is designed to give students and families the most flexibility allowing them to pick their own adventure as they explore the school and meet their teachers. Students and families may spend two hours with us or come by for a speedy meet and greet.
**There are NO period bells during this event - we are NOT following a class schedule.**
Open House provides parents and students with an opportunity to get to know their academic program and teacher. It's also a wonderful opportunity to network and start building positive relationships between home and the schoolhouse.
Teacher Locations
Use your students schedule to find what room their teacher is in.
We dont have enough room at the schoolhouse for every teacher to have their own room. Some Teachers have to travel to different rooms throughout Riverside. For this event, Traveling teachers will be in the cafeteria: There will be signs posted outside the classroom listed on the schedule if the teacher travels. There will also be signs in cafeteria so you know who is who.
Open House Offerings
Meet & Greet Teachers - Individual locations - ParentVue and Hand-Out provide specific locations
Club Kick-Off - Gym ***Come explore and join if you choose many of the current clubs at RHVS.
RAM Shack - Award winning school store - Open for shopping school gear

Rising 9th Graders, Chromebooks & Open House
If you are a rising 9th grader (going into grade 9)...please bring your Chromebook to exchange at Open House.
See details below:
- To provide the smoothest, quickest experience possible, please ensure that your rising freshman brings their currently-assigned Chromebook with them to Open House. They will exchange that Chromebook for a newer model that will better support them in their high school journey. Please have them remove and save any stickers and neatly wrap the power cable.
- If your child is accepted into the Academies of Loudoun, they will receive a ThinkPad laptop from the Academies of Loudoun that will cover all of their educational needs instead of the Chromebook that is issued here at Riverside. If your child is new to LCPS, no need to worry, we have a Chromebook for them as well!
We look forward to meeting everyone on the lower level at the intersection of the L400 & L500 hallways and hope you have a wonderful school year.
Student Personal Device Use @ Riverside & LCPS
Good Morning Riverside,
I'm not sure how much you follow the news or watch LCPS/School Board meetings, but school systems in Virginia have been tasked with creating and implementing new policies centered around student personal devices. This will be a change for us and all of Virginia. While the policy is somewhat more directive, it is not drastically different from what we have done here at the schoolhouse in the past.
Please familiarize yourself with the policy (linked below) and speak with your students concerning this new structure, we will definitely do so here at the schoolhouse when we open our doors in August. I know that if we work together this initiative will be a success and create the best learning environment for our school.
In June 2024, the LCPS School Board passed Policy 8655: STUDENT PERSONAL DEVICE USE. Please familiarize yourself with the linked document. Prior to this policy, students had more discretion with using personal devices during instructional periods. Staff also had more discretion. The concerns brought forward with students being distracted by personal devices, concerns with learning loss, and inappropriate use of technology have resulted in our school board now requiring students and staff to adhere to county-wide expectations. Per policy, devices include cell phones, tablets, earbuds, personal gaming devices, and other technologies.
Key points to Policy 8655:
Students may use their personal devices during non-instructional time, before and after school, during class changes, and during lunch time.
Students may not use their devices during instructional time unless directed to use these devices for instruction.
Upon arrival to class students must silence devices and store them in a designated classroom storage location or in their backpacks so they are not immediately accessible.
Should the need arise to leave the classroom while students are scheduled in instructional time, devices must remain stowed (unless a student is leaving for the day).
To align with AP, SAT, ACT, and SOL testing practices, we encourage all staff to have students remove, silence, and stow smart watches during assessments. This is a deterrent to academic dishonesty and a testing best practice.
