LONG EMAIL ALERT: Curtain Calls...
May 31, 2024
…are emotional, especially when it’s been quite a ride. I don’t know if you know this or not but my first experience as a principal was during the pandemic and now I don’t know anything but a post-pandemic world as a building leader. I think about Everett and where we were three years ago when I joined this team. We were limping out of a traumatic time in all of our lives and you were kind enough to welcome me into your family. Because of your openness, we were able to do the impossible at EverettLand, save each other in Everettopolis, and change our community as a team in EverettTown.
I will be forever grateful to you all for the laughs, the support, and the love. We should feel incredibly proud and celebrate our team as we reflect on this final stats update:
Final Everett SIP Plan
Increase ELA and Math proficiency on the IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) See tracking data
ELA 50% -> 69%
Math 61% -> 79.5%
Decrease chronic absenteeism 12% -> 8% (As of May 16, 2024) hoping it stays here as we have many students absent these last days
Increase connectedness among staff and students
Staff 4.34 -> 4.7
Students 4.1 -> 4.2
These results make me smile!!! While we can always do better, we are growing and improving because of our systems and processes we've implemented as a building. While I'm excited to bring some of these systems and processes to the district, I know we couldn't have done it without the care and support from you. PLEASE stay in touch and please continue to provide your feedback. I love the conversation and appreciate the dialogue. I promise to continue to do this work on your behalf and in honor of our children.
I truly love this community and will miss you terribly. I beg you to stay in touch and ask that you give an extra special hanky wave this next Wednesday.
See you there...

Advanced Learning Model Update for 4th Grade Math
The advanced learning model for 4th grade math will be updated next school year.
For many years in District 67, 4th grade students have had the opportunity to flex in and out of 5th grade math units based on 4th grade unit pre-assessment data and NWEA MAP scores. After reviewing district data, researching accelerated elementary math models and best practices, and collaboration with our educational team, the advanced learning model in 4th grade will move to a set group of students for the full extent of the school year. This model will ensure that foundational priority standards are conceptually developed for each student, and minimize unintentional gaps in learning.
Students will qualify for the Bridges 4/5 compacted course for their 4th grade year using the following criteria:
3rd grade Spring MAP Scores
Post-Assessment scores (3rd/4th grade units from this past year)
Advanced Learner Criteria Checklist
End-of-Year 4th Grade Assessment
For the 2024-2025 school year, 3rd grade will continue following the flexible advanced learning mode. Student participation will be determined unit-by-unit, based on student data. Please reach out to Vail Kieser, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Jenny Parkhurst, District 67 Math Coach, with any questions regarding these changes. Thank you!
Medication Pick-Up
Please arrange to pick up any student medications prior to the last day of the school year, Wednesday, June 5. Any medications left at school after the last day will be discarded.
If your child will require medication during the 2024/2025 school year, an updated medication authorization form is required. Medication authorization forms are available through the online registration system and on the District’s website. Return this completed form and prescribed medication to the school nurse’s office at the beginning of the 2024/2025 school year. Medication cannot be given at school without this form on file.
Technology Update
Incoming District 67 2nd graders - 7th graders (outgoing 1st through 6th graders) will be taking their devices home over the summer to use again in the 2024-2025 school year.
Kindergarten students will turn in their iPads to their homeroom teachers before June 4. A new iPad will be given to all 1st graders in the first week of the 2024-2025 school year in their new classrooms.
Please follow the link below to view basic care instructions for your student’s device and review technical support options over the summer.

APT News and Events
THIS IS IT… The final days of school are upon us. Another Field Day filled with energy, laughter and popsicles has passed. This year the popsicles were more heartfelt than usual as they were generously donated by the grandparents of Olivia Rubeck. They wanted all of Everett to know how much the ongoing efforts this year to raise money for Olivia’s recovery meant to the whole family. Olivia was not able to be with us a great portion of this school year but in Spirit she always was!
Hence, this year my GRATITUDE to all the families, staff and especially parents on the APT committees is overflowing. One person alone cannot make all the great things at Everett happen. It’s ALL the helping hands, TeamWork as Coach Fitz would say, that makes Everett the BEST PLACE to be!
Speaking of … Dr. Fitzsimmons you will be missed. Your presence, energy, and cheerfulness that you bring to Everett EVERY day is above and beyond what we could have asked for these last 3 years! You have been our SuperHero making our Everett Team as strong as can be. There is truly No Place Like Everett Thanks to YOU! We know you will not be far; so, don’t be surprised if we come find you!! And, the carline is always happy to see you!!
Special thanks to the Bulletin Board committee: Julie Bourdo, Ivonne Georgas, and Cortney Oriti for all their creativity and enthusiasm over the school year in making our front bulletin board look spectacular for kids, parents and teachers!
Again, THANK YOU to all the parents, teachers and staff that have made this year amazing for our Everett kids. It was great to see so many Everett families at Thursday’s ALL School Ice Cream Social. The kids enjoyed running around at their favorite park as parents mingled to talk about summer plans! You may have also had a chance to meet our New Everett Principal Megan Eigenrauch!
Our 4th Graders started their transition to DPM with a well attended Ice Cream Social on Wednesday. 4th graders from all 3 district elementary schools were invited to meet up at Everett and start mingling as future 5th graders.
