What learning will look like when your child is in quarantine...
This letter from Barrington220 is to inform you about what learning will look like when your child is in quarantine during the 2021-22 school year. Learning during quarantine will be a combination of asynchronous and synchronous learning.
Math Message from Mr. McGann, Math & Science Coach
As we move into October, students are expanding their computation skills:
Kindergarteners are still building understanding of numbers to 10. Continue practicing counting up to 10 and back, and beyond 10 as they are ready.
1st grade: addition and subtraction within 10
2nd grade: addition and subtraction within 1,000
3rd grade: addition and subtraction within 10,000
4th grade & 5th grade: multi-digit multiplication and division.
Great conversation starters to support these concepts are:
+/– How many more/fewer do we have now?
+/– How many did we have before?
× If we had ___ groups of these, how much would that be?
÷ If we shared these with ___ friends, how much would each friend receive?
Think about when you use math throughout your day, and invite your child to see the math around them in the real world. The grocery store is a great place to “see” the math around us. Small conversations can have a big impact!
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) ~ Mr. De La Mora, Assistant Principal
We have started the 2021-2022 school year in full force and we are all very happy to be back, creating great learning experiences for all of our Tigers. These experiences include the Station Rotation, where our Tigers reviewed how to show the, “Tiger Way” around the school. Our Sunny Hill staff discussed how to be safe, responsible, and respectful in all of the different areas of our school, such as the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, and playground.
During the month of October, we will open our PAWS Store to celebrate positive behavior around our school. PAWS is our schoolwide Positive Actions Within Sunny Hill program which helps students, teachers, staff, and families identify and understand how we can be safe, responsible, and respectful.
One of my priorities is to help our students become successful in school. Please do not hesitate to contact me at (847) 426-4232 or via email at edelamora@barrington220.org.
The Sunny Hill 3 Be’s Rubric describes the behavior expectations in relation to:
Nurse Frusti keeps us safe & healthy.
- Be responsible
