This week...
It's been a fun week with lots to celebrate in school!
Our Mini Vinnies made us very proud with their kindness walk on Thursday - have a look at the photos below and on our Twitter account! Our Rosary Challenge continues across school; our KS1 children enjoyed a trip to Ledston Estate on Monday (thank you to the volunteers who supported us with this); we welcomed families into our school to see learning in our open classroom event on Thursday afternoon; and our Y5/6 children have now trained as breaktime playleaders!
What another busy, fun-filled week at St Joseph's!
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue
Our virtue this week continues to be: Citizenship
If your child shows citizenship at home, please let me know, so we can celebrate this in school too.
Kindness Walk
On Thursday, our Mini Vinnies took part in a kindness walk around Tadcaster! They hand-delivered flowers to local residents, along with lovely little messages of hope, and Bible quotes.
Well done for spreading kindness around our town, St Joseph's!
Year 5/6 Playleaders
This week, we welcomed a coach into school, who specialises in teaching young people to lead sports and games. Our St Therese Class were trained in how to become 'playleaders' for our school. They are very excited about their new roles, which will mean working on a rota to facilitate play for the other children at breaktimes.
Well done, St Therese!
Tad10 Fundraising Run
On Sunday 17th November, Mrs Ronicle (Headteacher) and Laura Cooper (Chair of FoSJ) are running the Tad10!
It's a 10 mile route, that passes our lovely school.
Cake and refreshments will be served outside school, and we hope you will come to cheer us on!
Any donations, however small, will be gratefully received. Funds raised will be split between our Friends of St Joseph's and St Leonard's Hospice.
The hospice holds a special place for us, as one of our families lost their dad last year, and the hospice provided such love and care in a difficult time.
Please have a look at our fundraising page and feel free to make a little donation if you are able.
More importantly, PLEASE come to cheer us on outside school during the run - we'll likely be in need of your support and smiley faces!

Open Classrooms
We were blown away by how well-attended our open classrooms were on Thursday afternoon! We love having our school filled with excited adults! Thank you for supporting our children’s learning.
Rosary Challenge
We are very thankful to our Mini Vinnies, who are continuing our participation in the Rosary Challenge, by leading groups each day to pray the Rosary.

Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 94.98%
This week, our attendance is below National Average. This is largely due to family holidays. Please remember that there is new government guidance in place regarding term-time holidays and fine.
As you know, we love having our children in school and really hope you can support us in getting them to attend as often as possible.
Wake Up Wednesday
Have a look at this week's information about in-game chat:
This week, we have been learning...
St Nicholas Class (Nursery)
In St. Nicholas this week we have been exploring the story of 'The Gingerbread Man.' We have made gingerbread men in the playdough and used our fine motor skills to decorate.
St Francis Class (Preschool / Reception)
We have been loving our phonics this week; in reception we have nearly learned all the single sounds! This picture shows our youngest children on a phonics sound walk - listening to and describing environmental sounds. We have also enjoyed using our other senses this week; as we rolled, smelled and tasted our very own gingerbread men! This has inspired us to do lots of artwork, writing and maths all about The Gingerbread Man from the story!
St Bernadette Class (Year 1/2)
In science, we have been testing materials for being waterproof and absorbent.
We learnt that plastic, brick, metal and glass are waterproof and paper is very absorbent.
We all agreed that metal, tile or glass would be the best material for a roof on a house!
St Patrick Class (Year 3/4)
In Science this week, we thought about water pollution and the changes that makes to a habitat. We were set the challenge of creating as dirty water as possible, then we had to clean it. We realised how tricky that was and how important it is we keep our natural waters as pollution-free as possible.
St Therese Class (Year 5/6)
In our art, we finished studying about the landscape artist, Turner. We have been working on our own Turner-inspired masterpieces and are delighted with the results!

The larger events we have planned (disco and xmas fayre) require as many helping hands as possible, so if you have any hours to spare please do let us know.
We are hoping to create a FoStJ area on the notice board in the playground. This is at the bottom of the KS1 steps, so keep an eye out for posters with our upcoming events.
