Dean's Message
Greetings! Now that October is upon us and the leaves have started to fall, I hope that you have comfortably settled in your graduate studies at Villanova. This fall, we were thrilled to welcome over 300 new students to our Master's and PhD programs, hailing from 30 states and 13 foreign countries.
Below, I offer some "tips for success" that I shared at new student orientation in August. Whether you're just starting your graduate school journey, or even nearing its completion, I think these are important to reflect on and remember.
- Take risks. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself. Take a course outside your area of interest; talk with a faculty member or a fellow student who is studying a topic you're not familiar with. These experiences and exchanges may help you discover a new passion, or give you a different perspective on your own work.
- Get to know students from other disciplines. Connect with your fellow students across the college and beyond, as sometimes our most meaningful academic and personal growth comes from collaborating with people with diverse interests and backgrounds.
- Embrace the Villanova community. Explore our campus and our community and take advance of all they have to offer; the opportunities are endless.
- Make time for work and play. Balance is important in all of our lives. Remember to take time and have fun! We are here to support and encourage you.
On behalf of the entire Office of Graduate Studies, I wish you a very productive and engaging semester!
