Substitute teachers play a vital role at Westwood. They jump into different roles as teachers to continue instruction and student support when a regular contracted teacher is away.
Interested in being a substitute teacher? The state has two pathways toward becoming a substitute teacher: substitute license and substitute authorization. For a substitute license, individuals who have held or are eligible to hold a full teaching license in Iowa can apply for a substitute license, which allows the teacher to substitute in any PK-12 subject or grade level, including long-term subbing. For a substitute authorization, individuals with an associate's degree or 60 semester hours or high and the completion of an approved substitute authorization course can be a substitute.

Prioritizing student safety requires a collective effort. The Iowa Governor's School Safety Bureau created Safe+Sound Iowa, an anonymous reporting system accessible to everyone – students, teachers, parents, and community members.
