Peterson's News
12/16-12/20
Good evening,
Our Peterson Singers did not disappoint last Monday evening, they were outstanding. We even had the joy of some Neuqua Valley musicians join us! Thank you, Mrs. Luhn for all of your hard work!!!
Thank you so much to all of our families who supported our Book Fair! It was wonderful to see all the students shopping for their favorite books! Thank you too to Mrs. Sidhwa, Mrs. Saindon, and the volunteers who helped make it such a success!
Our Primary spirit day winner is Mrs. Hietpas's Class and our Intermediate winner is Mrs. Baxter's class!! Congratulations to you both!
This is my last newsletter before break! There’s so much to celebrate during this time of year! I take pride in the hard work of our students and the incredible progress they’ve already achieved. I also deeply appreciate the commitment and passion our teachers bring each day. The support of our families is also something I cherish and celebrate daily. This season is also a time when many of us observe special holidays, such as Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. My hope is that the Winter Break provides you and your loved ones with an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the joy in your lives.
Best,
Alli Landstrom

Illness Reminders
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the district practices that are in place to maximize the health of our students and staff.
- If your child is running a fever of one hundred (100) degrees or greater (or 37.8 degrees Celsius or higher), please keep your child at home until the temperature has been less than one hundred (100) degrees (37.8 C) for twenty-four (24) hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications.
- If your child is experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, please keep your child at home until these concerns have been resolved for twenty-four (24) hours, and your child is tolerating food.
- If your child has been prescribed medication for an illness, please keep your child home until it has been over 24 hours since the medication has been started.
- Colds and respiratory viruses are common during the school year. If your child is coughing continuously or has green-colored nasal secretions, you may wish to consult with your medical provider and follow his/her directions.
- If your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness such as Covid 19, strep throat, measles, chicken pox, or pertussis, please notify the school as soon as possible.
- As a reminder, frequent hand washing with soap and water is the primary way to prevent the spread of illness.
Below is a document that summarizes this information! Thank you for your cooperation in helping us to promote a healthy, happy school environment!
e-Learning Information
District 204 follows a plan whenever there is consideration of holding an e-learning day or canceling school due to weather conditions. If the district holds an e-learning day or cancels school completely, the information will be announced by 6 am on www.ipsd.org. The district will also make a 204 Connect phone call by 6 AM to alert parents and guardians of the information. Parents and students can also check the Emergency Closing Center for school closings. For more information, visit the district’s e-Learning webpage.
Students in Kindergarten and First grade will have packets sent home with them at the end of this week. These packets are only to be used if we have an e-Learning day. Students in Grades 2-5 would access their Google Classroom for their information. More specific information will be shared in the event that one of these days occurs!

Holiday Giving - Peterson Staff Favorites
As we approach the holiday season, families may wish to give a gift to their child's teacher(s) and staff. This is entirely optional. To make things a little easier, there is a link on the PTA website called “Staff Favorites”. There you will find helpful information about each staff member such as their favorite restaurant, hobbies, etc.
Peterson PTA Appreciates our Amazing Staff!
This week the PTA will be hosting a holiday lunch for our amazing Peterson staff! One of the things that everyone's generous contributions to the PTA, through funds raised from PTA memberships and through the Our Party, Our Way fundraiser, is able to fund is Staff Appreciation. In addition to this week's holiday lunch, so far this year the PTA was able to show our gratitude for our amazing school staff by providing dinner for teachers the evening of conferences, a continental breakfast during the daytime conferences, and several beverage/ snack cart trips on various occasions during the school day. We appreciate our wonderful Peterson staff!

Previous Information
Outdoor Recess
Our weather is forecasted to be all over the place in the coming week! Please make sure that your child is dressed to go outside. If it's cold, they should have coats, hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves. If they like to play in the snow, they should also have boots and snowpants. Students will go outside for recess when the temperature is 5 degrees and above including wind-chill.
Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
Parents, we have families who have been allowed the use of a Fast Pass. These are given for various reasons to families. A family with a Fast Pass have a clearly marked sign in their car that identifies this privilege. Please do not be rude when they pull up on the left and try to move to the right to get to our Fast Pass pick-up. If you have a concern with it, please reach out to me.
In addition, I am asking you to please follow the rules for arrival and dismissal.
- There is NO drop-off or pick-up off of Honey Locust. A walker is a student who walks home. It is not for a student who walks to a waiting car.
- Do not turn around in driveways.
- You should not be turning left into the carline from Chinaberry.
- Obey the speed limits.
- Cell phones should not be used in school zones.
I want to remind everyone that when you don't follow these rules, you are modeling to your student that rules are not important. in addition, you could be putting the safety of our students at risk. We are all members of the Peterson School Community and I would hope that we as adults would follow the Panther Pledges of: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Supporting Attendance!
At Peterson, we understand that life can sometimes get in the way of maintaining regular school attendance. It can be difficult to juggle unexpected events, health concerns, or family commitments.
Attendance is essential to your child’s success, not only academically but also socially and emotionally. Each day at school provides opportunities for learning, connecting with friends, and exploring new ideas. We are here to help ensure that every child has the support they need to attend regularly and thrive.
If you’re facing issues that make attendance difficult, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Whether you need assistance with transportation, navigating medical appointments, or other resources, we’re ready to work together to find solutions.
Your child’s success is our top priority, and we believe that by partnering with families, we can help every student succeed.
Safety Concerns
Unfortunately, our community and I continue to witness unsafe driving behavior. We have drivers who are continuing to disobey the crossing guards while students are at or in the crosswalks, drivers who are making u-turns in the middle of Honey Locust, and trying to pick up students from the blacktop off of Honey Locust. Please the safety of all of our students is critically important! I continue to work with our police and district on this issue. I also highly encourage you to fill out the non-emergency form below. We expect our students to follow the expectations, I expect our families to do so too.
