The Great North American Eclipse
We are excited to inform you that on Monday, April 8th, we will be experiencing a total eclipse, and we have planned an outdoor observation session for our students on the soccer field. This promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them. In partnership with the Perot Museum, we have secured eclipse glasses for both students and staff to safely observe this celestial event.
However, we understand that some parents may have reservations about their children participating in this activity. If you prefer that your child does not take part, please send a letter to the front office indicating your wishes.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in providing enriching educational experiences for our students.
Here is a video that you can show them on how to safely watch the eclipse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=181RpmRtFYo&t=260s

Home Visit Request Form
Home visits are intended to develop a positive and impactful relationship with families. This is an opportunity to get to know you and your child in the comfort of your own home. Time is taken to share your Hopes & Dreams for your student, academic expectations, and share school resources. Home visits are not parent/teacher conferences. They are meant to “get to know each other” and to build a viable relationship for the academic benefit of your student.

Weekly Character Principles
Principle #9: The school fosters shared leadership and long-range support of the character education initiative.
9.1-The school’s character education initiative has leaders, including the school principal, who champion character education efforts, share leadership, and provide long-range support.
9.2-A leadership group or structure (several linked groups) inclusive of staff, students, and parents guides the ongoing planning and implementation of the character education initiative and encourages the involvement of the whole school in character-related activities.
9.3-Students are explicitly involved in creating and maintaining a sense of community and in other leadership roles that contribute to the character education effort.
Helpful Drive Line Tips

- Pick-Up MS/HS - Left Lane curb or Right Lane curb.
- HS/MS Middle Lane in the afternoon is for through traffic only. ⬆️
- Be cautious of students entering and exiting vehicles.
- 🔆 Use blinkers at all times when maneuvering in the drive line.
- 🔆 Use hazards to signal your stoppage on the curb for Drop-Off or Pick-Up.
- Fill all available space in front of your vehicle when cars vacate the line.
- At 8:00am, Drop-Off students at the front doors. Rear doors close at this time. Remember that the right lane is a through lane only.

- Attention: Texas House Bill 347: Prohibits the use of cell phones while driving on school property during reduced speed time zones in order to improve pedestrian safety. The ban applies to any school property where a school crossing zone is present. The only exceptions to the law are when the vehicle is stopped, the driver is using a hands-free device, or if the individual is in the process of making an emergency call or operating an emergency vehicle.

Early Departure for Student Drivers
All students who drive to school and require an early departure must have their parents confirm the departure through both a phone call and an email. This requirement is non-negotiable, and we expect full compliance. To ensure your child's timely and safe departure, follow the steps below:
- Call the school office at 469.814.0059 to report your child's early departure.

Medical Absences
Dear HPS Parents and Guardians,
This letter is to remind you of our current procedures regarding absences due to medical reasons.
If your student is feeling sick while at school, it is mandatory for them to visit the Health Aide before they can be sent home to ensure that any necessary care is provided promptly. If it is necessary to send the student home due to illness, the health aide will notify the parent/guardian. Any attempts to sign-out due to illness without the attention of the health aide will result in an unexcused absence.
Absences exceeding three or more days due to illness, require a note from a healthcare provider in order for the absences to be excused.
As a reminder, students are expected to be present for a minimum of 90% of each class to receive credit and actively participate in their education.
Your cooperation and understanding in this matter are highly appreciated. These measures will contribute to a healthier and more productive learning environment for our students.

Funds are used for things like books and classroom resources. This can also help determine if your student is eligible for discounts on dual credit, AP, or college applications (if a high school student). Meal applications may be submitted online through School Café.
