March is Reading Month
Check out Mrs. Barozzini's "Shark-tastic" bulletin board! Don't forget to be completing your reading activities 😃.
Book Fair Fuels Reading
As part of our “March Is Reading Month” celebration, under the direction of media center specialist Mrs. Barozzini, Emerson held its annual book fair. The fair offered a variety of books from the ridiculous to the sublime. Former titles included Captain Underpants and the ever-popular Dog Man. Latter topics involved outer space and the Titanic. Interest was high throughout the week and spilled over as the media center became a major parent conference stopping point.

Spring Conferences
Spring Conferences Take New Format
Like all Fraser elementary schools, spring parent-teacher conferences added a new element – students as discussion leaders. The traditional approach of teachers leading the dialogue flipped to students taking charge. With teachers present for comments, students sat their parents down and explained the work pulled from their folders and iPads. Student pride seemed abundant as they demonstrated the skills they have recently learned.
Second-Grade Food Critics
On Monday, the second graders from Emerson visited El Charros for a fun outing! Acting as undercover food critics, the students had a great time exploring the restaurant. They took notes on the delicious food, friendly atmosphere, and helpful service. During their visit, they enjoyed tasty tacos, chicken fingers, quesadillas, and hot dogs, along with a drink of their choice. Everyone agreed that El Charros is a fantastic place to eat! These young food critics highly recommend it to everyone in our community!
4th Grade Science Fun!
In Ms. Carnaghi’s fourth-grade class at Emerson Elementary, students were studying erosion and weathering. In this activity students explored how solid rock breaks apart into smaller units through a process called weathering. In the activity students used sugar cubes as a model for rocks to figure out what happens to rocks when they tumble down a mountain. Two students worked together to conduct the experiment. Each student in their group had to shake the sugar cubes in plastic containers. After a certain amount of shakes of the cubes both students had to record their observations of the sugar cube. By the end of the experiment students realized what happens to rocks edges as they fall down a mountain.
PBIS Incentive
Board Game Day!
To celebrate positive behavior, students will participate in a Board Game Day on Friday, March 21st! Students may bring in their favorite game from home. 😄
Social Worker Week
Ms. Gentry 💖
Last week was National Social Worker Week. At Emerson we have one of the best, Ms. Sara Gentry. She serves as a bridge between school, home and community. Ms. Gentry provides mental health support and counseling for those in need while overseeing our important Peer2Peer and Restorative Practices programs. She assists when students are in crisis and develops plans to address social and emotional needs. How do students view her? These remarks from a 6th grader sum it up. “Ms. Gentry is friendly, helpful and cool. She listens and always helps with my problems.” We are thankful to have her at Emerson.
