Kids at Hope Backpacks at Washington Intermediate
Thank you for our first collection of backpacks purchased in memory of Dustin Downs.
These backpacks will hang in a special place in our school office and offered to new students enrolling throughout the year. The need for school supplies is something that increases as students move and enroll during the school year.
Each backpack is filled with supplies to help our students feel welcome and start their new school with the items they need.
If you are interested in donating please contact Mrs. Newkirk, Washington Intermediate Social Worker, at cnewkirk@wcs.k12.in.us.

Inkless Child ID Kits for all Students in Grades K-4
The Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents is proud to partner with the National Football League Alumni Association and the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police to provide free at-home inkless ID kits for children grades K-4. These kits are provided at no cost to schools or parents through funding provided by the Indiana Attorney General’s Office.
The ID Kit allows parents to collect specific information by easily recording the physical characteristics, fingerprints, and DNA of their children on identification cards. If ever needed, this ID Kit gives authorities vital information to assist their efforts to locate a missing child.
These inkless kits are designed to be stored at home by the parents or guardians with birth certificates and important documents. It is important to note that these kits do NOT enter a database, thereby ensuring the privacy and security of the children’s information.
All instructions for these user-friendly identification kits are included in the kit and a QR code is available on the outside of the kit for visual instructions and a brief history of the program.
The ID Kits will be sent home with students soon. Thank you for being a part of this extremely important safety initiative for the children of Indiana. Visit our website for more information.
Washington Community Schools College & Career Newsletter
Business & Community Leaders are encouraged to RSVP to the television show Roadtrip Nation's visit to Washington JH & HS and for our zSpace Showcase!
For the 2024-2025 school year, Washington Community Schools will have (8) 2-Hour Delay Wednesdays, 1 per month excluding December & May, built into our school calendar for staff professional development.
It is important for our school district to dedicate time for teacher collaboration to focus on data-informed decision-making and best instructional practices. This allows our entire team of educators to work collectively to provide an educational experience that meets all learners' needs with a more significant impact on student achievement and success.
If you are a business leader or higher education partner who has an interest in working with us to teach students about local career or educational opportunities or if you're just interested in learning more about the high-tech learning platforms our students have access to, then make plans to attend our zSpace Showcase Event.
