Eating Breakfast is Important
- Refuels your bodies energy stores
- Helps you wake up
- Prevents overeating later
- Makes you happier
- Helps you focus
Healthy Tip: Choose a savory breakfast over a sugary breakfast!
It is even better if your savory breakfast includes PROTEIN because protein will help keep your blood sugar levels stable (so you will feel good) and keep you full longer.
Great Lakes Apple Crunch - October 16th & 17th

Try Day Friday - October 25th
Gooseberries
Join us on Friday, October 25th to try Gooseberries! These berries are packed with nutrients like vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, & fiber. Studies suggest that they help prevent cancer, better brain function, and reduce diabetes.
Fun fact: gooseberries are actually illegal in some states for spreading a tree killing disease.

Tour The Apple Orchard!
Recently a few members from our food service team visited Gavin Orchards. We saw how their apples and vegetables are cleaned, sorted, & packed for distribution to local grocery stores and schools here in West Michigan!
Each apple is handpicked to ensure perfect ripeness. Then they are sorted and scanned to remove any apples with defects which will be used for apple sauce, cider, or juice. To ensure grocery stores & schools can request apples with specific color or size they scan each apple at 10 different angles before being sorted. Apples are then stored by being placed in a nitrogen filled and oxygen free cooler to stall their aging and keep them at peak freshness until they are ready to be shipped all year round.
We are happy to be serving our students fresh, locally grown apples all year long!
