Roo Report - Week of 8/19/24
From the Desk of Mr. Smith
Over the last week, we welcomed almost 900 students through our doors at Tison Middle School. Our teachers and staff welcomed them with radical hospitality and a focus on engaging all students in the procedures necessary for everyone to have a great experience this year. Our leadership team met with each grade level, discussing rules and procedures, but more importantly, we discussed how our students can make a positive impact on one another. Meeting your children for the first time, and those who returned, was a blessing and a joy. Thank you for allowing us to partner with you, as we provide all students with a quality education.
NWEA MAP testing kicks off this week in our ELA classes. All students will take their beginning of the year MAP tests between August 19th - September 17th in math, science, and ELA. If you have questions regarding MAP testing, please reach out to your child's teacher.
As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. At Tison, we strive to provide the best support and service to our students and families. The 2024-2025 school year is off to a great start and it will only get better!
Go Roos!

Counselor's Corner
WE ARE EXCITED TO SEE YOU
Our counseling department is excited to see all of our Tison Roos back on campus for the Fall of 2024. As a reminder, we will be working hard on student schedules and plan to have them ready for you at the Meet the Teacher events. Please be patient with us, as we will work to correct any scheduling issues that arise. We want to make the 24-25 school year the best one ever for our students and families.
STUDENTS THAT NEED TO SEE A COUNSELOR AT SCHOOL
Any student on campus can request to see a counselor throughout the school year. The form linked below can be used by a student who needs to see a counselor to discuss their schedule, peer relationship issues, or any other situation that may arise. We look forward to serve our students and families.
The PTA is the lifeblood of Tison Middle School. The PTA provides support, encouragement, and incentives for students to be successful academically and socially. In addition, the PTA takes care of the staff at Tison with luncheons, funding for necessary classroom items, and much much more. The more parents involved, the more we can get accomplished for our students at staff at Tison Middle School.
**Join the Tison PTA and Make a Difference!**
STARTING NOW, you can join the Tison PTA and become a vital part of our community. Your involvement helps create a stronger bond between our school and families, ensuring our students thrive. One of our most pressing needs is a partnership between the PTA and our athletics teams to establish a concession stand committee. This initiative will not only raise vital funds for our programs but also enhance the game day experience for everyone.
Additionally, you can support our staff and students by contributing to the Tison school supply drive. Check out our links below to find the membership link, school supply drive list and the concession stand crew sign up too.
Let's work together to make a real difference. Join us TODAY and help us ensure everyone has what they need for a successful school year.
Traffic Flow Map
Please follow the map below when dropping off and picking up students. As always, traffic will flow more slowly the first couple of weeks of school as everyone gets used to the traffic flow and process. Please be patient with us.
❗Parents, please help our traffic move more quickly by:
1) making sure your child knows where you are picking them up (front entrance or back loop entrance)
2) pull all the way down the pickup line at the front entrance to allow as many cars to be curbside as possible for car loading. When cars stop 50 feet from the front entrance to load, is slows down the entire traffic pattern.
Tison has four 33-minute lunch periods:
- Lunch A: 11:41 - 12:14 (6th Grade)
- Lunch B: 12:16 - 12:49 (6th Grade)
- Lunch C: 12:51 - 1:24 (7/8th Grade)
- Lunch D: 1:26 - 1:59 (7/8th Grade)
- 6th Graders have lunch during their 5th period class.
- 7/8th Graders have lunch during their 6th period class.
- Students may bring a lunch or purchase one in the cafeteria.
- We do have 3 microwaves available for student use at lunch. Microwaves will be busy, please consider this when planning your student's lunch.
- Parents/Guardians may drop off lunch for their students by coming into the front office.
- There is a cart to place lunches on with markers and notes available to place the student’s name on the lunch.
- Parents/Guardians must communicate with their student that lunch is being dropped off for them, as the front office staff will not be able to call students out of class to come pick up their lunch.
- Tison front office staff is not responsible for lunches that are dropped off.
- Students will be responsible for coming to the office to pick up their lunch.
- Reminder: For safety purposes, no delivery services are allowed. Only parents/guardians may deliver lunch to their student. Tison does not accept food delivery services such as Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. for students.
- Parents who would like to eat with their student will be required to show a valid form of ID, get a visitor’s pass, and eat in a designated area. Other students will not be allowed to eat with you. Your student will come by the office on their way to lunch to escort you to the student-parent seating area in the fine arts hallway.
