We believe input from our stakeholders is an integral part of "The Coleman Experience" for our students. We will be hosting all 3 grade levels at the same time on Tuesday, May 21 from 10:00-11:00. Gwinnett County Public Schools has new requirements for proof of residency for students on a Residency Affidavit, including that the person you are living with MUST also come in the building with you to sign. Please use the LINKs below to find the documents you MUST provide:

If you cannot provide updated proof of residency or affidavit, you MUST fill out a permissive transfer form and bring it with documentation of your current residency. We are approving permissive transfers at this time. Click HERE to access the form.

Hello parents, if you have a student with medication on file, we sent home a letter with your student about medication disposal options. Please sign/ fill out that form and get it returned no later than 5/10/24. Medications must be picked up by 5/22/24. REMINDER: MEDICATIONS CANNOT BE TRANSPORTED BY STUDENTS- THEY MUST BE PICKED UP BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN. Any medications that are not picked up by then will be discarded accordingly. Our Menchies Spirit Night was a huge success! The owners of Menchies just informed us that they are giving our Coleman PTA 67% of the night's profits earned from Coleman Families. The total sales for the night was $374.24, and they are cutting us a check for $250! Most restaurants only give us 10% of the profits, so 67% is over and beyond generous! We encourage our Coleman Families and Staff to continue giving Menchies your loyal business. Or better yet, consider Menchies for your future large group event planning! The Teacher Appreciation Cookout was a huge success! The teachers and staff loved all the food and drinks donated by our parents. We especially thank those parents who sacrificed their time to monitor the student lunches so teachers could enjoy a duty free lunch during the Cookout.

And most of all, thank you teachers and staff for your hard work and daily sacrifices in providing our students absolute excellence in their education. We so much appreciate the love, care, and expertise you devote to our children.

Attention Rising 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Families: Order your School Supply Kits for Next School Year by JULY 20th:

The Coleman PTA is partnering with a School Supply Company called "My Easy School Supply" to offer school supply kits containing the requested brands, colors, and quantities of supplies as specified by your Coleman teachers. Beginning on May 17th, you will be able to either scan a QR code on a digital flyer or click on a link to order. Your order will be delivered directly to your school. Purchasing these school supply kits is completely OPTIONAL, but it may save you the hassle of shopping for each item individually. These kits are made with high quality supplies from well known brands and are available at discounted prices. The order deadline is July 20th.

Since a number of our students walk after school, the City of Duluth wanted to share this letter with our parents. Please use this LINK to access the letter.

• To ensure the safety of our students, we encourage them to use the restroom during each class restroom break, while their teacher supervise them.
  
• If students needs to go the bathroom individually they must have a signed pass from their teacher on their agenda. 6th and 7th grade students must go to the clinic bathroom and get their pass signed. 8th grade student can use their grade level bathroom.

Please contact your grade level administrator if you have individualized questions or concerns.

As an additional safety feature this year, all staff have been provided a crisis alert badge and training to make a call for immediate assistance at a school or district wide level, this last one including SROs, law enforcement, and emergency personnel.

PBIS or Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports focuses on sharing, teaching, practicing, and acknowledging the behaviors we want students to display and provides interventions and supports that are consistent throughout each classroom and the school.

As part of PBIS, here at Coleman we have:

• First 20 day lessons to teach students expected behaviors.
• A table displaying expected behaviors in each classroom and the school. You can use this LINK to see our Behavior Matrix.
• Daily morning meetings and weekly advisement lessons to build classroom community.
• Behavior rewards such as weekly "Brain Breaks" and "Golden Tickets", monthly access to our PBIS store where students can redeem "paw points" they earn daily from teachers and staff, and quarterly Walk & Talks.
• A 9-step discipline process and behavior log for each student. Click this LINK to review the 9-steps.

More information will be shared during curriculum night.

This week administrators and teachers shared with all students our expectations for them to power down phones and keep them in their backpacks, as well as using any other smart devices appropriately, here at Coleman MS. We also shared that these expectations help them build community with teachers and peers, and be ready to collaborate and communicate more effectively during our Project Based Learning units, which are a fundamental part of our STEAM program.

You can use this LINK to review the expectations with your student. They have also been included in the student agenda. These expectations include also an outline of our 3-step discipline procedure when students do not meet expectations.

Please review the Dress for Excellence section in our Student and Parent Handbook. Students not following our dress for excellence recommendations will go to our grade level office where one of our office clerks will give them options in private to either change to an item of clothing in their backpack, an item of clothing from donations from our community, or from their parent delivery to the school.

Students attending afterschool events at Coleman MS or off campus, must be accompanied by a parent or adult.

• School hours are from 9:15 AM to 4:00 PM. Students are marked tardy after 9:15 AM.
• Students must be dropped off in the back at car rider lane. Doors open at 8:50 AM. Students who are late must be dropped off at the front entrance.
• Do not use the bus lanes before 9:30 AM or 4:30 PM. You can park on Main St. for drop off or pick up at these times.
• Students go directly to breakfast from car rider and bus lane. To protect learning time, students have grab-and-go lunch available after 9:10 AM.
• It is very important that you review the Coleman MS procedures for arrival and dismissal on this LINK and watch the video included for car riders.

Parents, if your student is a car rider and they are arriving after 9:10AM, we encourage you to provide breakfast at home, to avoid that they are late to interventions and homeroom morning meetings.

• Car rider procedures are the same in the morning and afternoon. Morning procedures start at 8:50 AM.
• Make sure you visit our website, including a picture and a video of our car rider pick up procedure. Please be respectful of our procedures. They have been put in place to protect our students' safety.
  
• Write your student's name on a paper and place it on your dashboard the first few weeks.
• Student will dismiss from the gym on days of inclement weather. Please have their names displayed on your dashboard.
• Be patient until our new 6th graders learn. Build some time on your schedule because the first few days will be slower, but it gets better.
• Be courteous and respectful to our teachers and staff on duty.
• Remind your children to look for their car, and remember, everybody is trying to pick up their child and get to your next family activity!

Due to additional reimbursement funding from the Georgia Department of Education, here are some changes coming this school year:

• Free and Reduced-Price students will receive breakfast at no charge. Students with Full Pay eligibility will be charged $1.50.
• Free and Reduced-Price students will receive lunch at no charge. Students with Full Pay eligibility will pay $2.25/$2.50 for lunch.
