Week of August 5, 2024
Dear HAE Families,
Greetings - I hope you and everyone in our Hendricks Avenue Elementary Community are doing well, and staying safe through the impending severe weather.
Our offices will be closed Monday; thank you for your patience as we work to respond to any inquiries while also supporting the school through this storm.
We still look forward to the HAE Meet-and-Greet on Friday, August 9 (see info below) before our first day of school on Monday, August 12!
The HAE PTA invites you to help at the HAE Campus Cleanup on Saturday, August 10 from 8am-11am! Thanks to everyone able to invest time and energy into the stewardship of Hendricks - helping our school look its best to start the school year! CLICK HERE to sign up for a specific time and role.
DCPS App Update: a completely new app is coming in the next few days, which means you can delete the old one and await word about the launch of our new platform very soon.
And finally, don't forget to complete your student's Dismissal information form so we know hoe they will be getting home the first day of school and beyond. CLICK HERE to access the survey.

We welcome parents to have lunch with their child!
- Please be sure to have a volunteer background check completed and processed prior to your visit at your student's scheduled lunch time.
- Please have lunch with your student at the courtyard picnic tables, the designated area for visits.
- Each student is only allowed to eat lunch with their respective parent/guardian. Parents are not allowed to take students who are not their child from the cafeteria.

New Worlds Reading Initiative - Free Books
The New Worlds Reading Initiative is a FREE at-home literacy and book delivery program to help advance literacy and a love of reading among students who are not yet reading on grade level.
The New Worlds Reading Initiative is administered by the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning, in partnership with Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books. The program provides our students with the chance to receive one free book per month in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole or braille during the school year, for a total of nine books per year. This is a great opportunity to help build at-home libraries and foster a love for reading in your home.
Enroll your child today by visiting newworldsreading.com/enroll.
Do you know an HAE Parent not receiving this newsletter?
If you are not already receiving these messages, it could be one of several reasons:
- The parent/guardian does not have a linked parent account – A parent needs to have a Parent Account that is linked to their child to receive these automated messages. Follow the steps above to create one.
- Incorrect phone number/email – The phone and/or email may be incorrect. Parents can review and update their contact information in OneView. They can log into OneView, click on “My Contact Info” and click on “Edit Info” to update their information as needed. Allow 24 hours for changes to go into effect.
- Miscellaneous – In some cases, the parent has done everything right. They have a parent account that is linked to their child, and their contact information is correct. In these cases, please contact us at dcpsnews@duvalschools.org so that we can troubleshoot.
