~ Notes From Mrs. Richardson ~
Greetings MPE Families,
I'd like to take a moment to sincerely thank each volunteer that gave time to help ensure the success of the MPE Drama Club production of Newsies Jr. What an amazing opportunity for our actors, actresses, and stage crew. This would truly not be possible without the support of our parents. Your hard work paid off and the show was incredible! I've included a few back stage shots below. These smiles are the reason behind all of the hard work and countless hours. The kids had a blast and the volunteers survived (I think 😄). This is an MPE tradition I hope will continue for many years to come. We rely on the support of volunteers and there are many ways to be involved. A listing of specific roles needed are listed below. If any of these interest you, please reach out to the MPE Drama Club at mountainparkdramaclub@gmail.com.

Specials Spirit Week!
Let’s show our Specials Teachers just how much we appreciate them!
Join us the week of March 10th as we celebrate the amazing teachers who make school EXTRA special. Each day, we’ll wear a special color to honor them, share kind words, and surprise them with their favorite treats!
How to Participate:
- Wear the color of the day to show your love!
- Write positive notes and affirmations to celebrate your Specials teachers.
Let’s make our Specials Teachers feel like SUPERSTARS all week long!
Vocabulary Parade is Coming - Tuesday April 1st!
Mountain Park will hold our school-wide (all students) 2nd annual Vocabulary Parade on Tuesday, April 1st from 8:00-8:30. Parents are encouraged to help their child create a costume to wear that day that portrays a word. Questions? Contact our Instructional Coach, Tiffany Barnes, at barnest2@fultonschools.org. Parents are welcome to attend.
Costumes:
- Costumes can be made from hats, poster boards with straps, sandwich boards (front and back poster board), or other props. Just remember that all items should be “safe” items! If you are riding the school bus, please make sure that it will fit easily on the bus for travel. Also, they should be able to walk down our outside playground stairs.
- Your costume may be any creative interpretation of the word (literal or silly). If it is best displayed and defined by more than one person you may have a partner. For example: “congruent-the same size and shape” might be illustrated by students dressed in matching outfits.
- Include your vocabulary word and definition on the costume.
Choosing Your Word:
- You may choose your own vocabulary word. Choose words that are age-appropriate but also expand the students’ vocabulary. For example, a kindergartener would be impressed to learn that “pachyderm” is a synonym for “elephant.”
- You also may want to consider one of Spirit’s Words of the Week.
- Words from: math, science, social studies, art, or music!
- Costumes need to be school-appropriate. No masks or weapons.
I've included a few examples below for inspiration. Have fun and be creative! We can’t wait to see what our Mustangs come up with! Here are some examples from last year:
Wait Until 8th
Exciting news, everyone! We’re launching the Wait Until 8th campaign at MPE!
This initiative encourages families to delay giving their kids smartphones until at least the end of 8th grade. Together, we can reduce the pressure on our children and help them thrive in a more distraction-free environment. The pledge becomes "active" once 10 or more families from the same grade sign up, which means you won’t be alone in this commitment. Join us in saying “not yet” to smartphones and give our kids a few more years to grow and explore!
Ready to join the movement? Check out the link https://www.waituntil8th.org to sign the pledge! Also, join our Facebook group to interact with like-minded MPE parents. Let’s do this together!
Attention 5th Grade Parents!
School Attendance Communication
When your child is absent from school due to illness or an appointment, please be sure to send an excuse note to mpeattendance@fultonschools.org. This will ensure our attendance office receives your excuse and can update your student's record accordingly. Remember that teachers can only mark students absent or present and cannot update absences. Absences will be updated within a few days of the excuse note being sent. I realize that the attendance letters detailing number of days absent can be unsettling. Please note that these are sent automatically from the district. Although they do have my name in the signature line, they are not from me. I do not send them or know when they are being sent. I am happy to help clear up any discrepancies found in your child's attendance record. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time for assistance at richardsona3@fultonschools.org.
Birthday on Marquee
Does your child have a birthday coming up? We would love to help you celebrate by putting your child's name on the marquee. You can sign up here: Birthday on Marquee

If for some reason you have not registered with Pick Up Patrol and need a registration link, please send an email to Shannon Anderson at Andersons5@fultonschools.org. Remember, you must submit all transportation changes using the app. The default transportation will be how they normally go home. If your student normally goes home a certain way, there’s no need to enter it on that day. Plan changes are only for when it differs from the default plan. Also, if you need a carpool or walker number, email andersons5@fultonschools.org or call the front office. Thanks so much!

~ Your Mountain Park PTA ~
Join the MPE PTA Board – Only a Few Spots Left!
We’re looking for a few more parents to step up and help make a difference at Mountain Park Elementary! With 80% of our board positions already filled, now’s your chance to be part of a team that directly impacts our students, teachers, and school community.
Why should you join? The PTA is about more than just meetings and fundraisers—it’s about building a stronger school for our kids. Your involvement helps create a positive, supportive environment where teachers feel appreciated, students thrive, and families build lasting connections.
Whether you’re a longtime MPE parent or new to the community, serving on the PTA is a great way to meet other families, stay involved, and make a real impact on your child’s education. Plus, a well-supported teacher is a more effective teacher—meaning your child benefits the most.
Open roles along with a brief description of each are provided in the Google Form below. Please share your contact information and let us know which roles you’re interested in. Additionally, if you’d like to learn more about these opportunities or are flexible in how you can contribute, we have an option for that too! Deadline for submission is Thursday, March 6th.

Creative Minds Club
In the Creative Minds Art Club, we champion the artist in everyone. Our mission is to inspire confidence in artistry and reveal the magic of creation.
Students will come into a WORKING ARTIST STUDIO where they will learn techniques for their OWN creations. Some projects will be teacher-led, but the goal is to allow students to find their inspiration and create from there — we value process and experimentation over final products, because that’s where real learning and creativity lie.
Classes are limited to 10 so that each student receives 1:1 time working on their projects.
In the Creative Minds Art Club, it’s more than just an art project, you'll leave with a sense of accomplishment and newfound confidence. Link - Creative Minds Art Club
