Bring on School Year 2022-2023

Welcome returning and new Bullfrog families! It feels like our second year of school just ended and now here we are, ramping up for Year #3! We are super excited to implement suggestions and changes that parents, staff and the State Board of Education have recommended.

I will continue sending out a weekly bulletin every Friday after school has started. This Bulletin is arriving a little early since there's a TON of Back to School information I need to share.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Bridge will NOT be hosting a vendor booth at Roy Days. We are super sad about this decision as we LOVE Roy and LOVE to support our community. We have tons and tons of great SWAG that we will now use for student Watch Me Learn prizes throughout the school year.

No newsletter is complete without a mention of the parking lot. The flow is the SAME as last year:

1. One entrance and one exit
2. NO left turn out of the parking lot during school hours.
3. Pull forward during pick up and drop off AS FAR AS POSSIBLE.
4. Be patient - be kind - be observant!

Students are NOT allowed to cross through the parking lot without their adult guardian. Do not stand at your car and motion your kids to come to you. Park your car, get out, and come to the front curb to safely escort your kids to your vehicle.

Please do NOT park across the street from the school and attempt to navigate crossing the road. NEVER drop your kids off and have them walk across the street to the school and especially, do not park here after school and motion for your kids to come to your car. This is extremely dangerous as cars turn the corner off of 4800 S and are not always paying attention.

Please do NOT park at the pharmacy. This is a private business and they get pretty upset when Bridge families hog up all their parking spots.

PARKING LOT FLOW

Our Dress Code is the same this year. Black or tan bottoms and either a plain colored polo or a Bridge logo shirt. Shoes MUST be closed toe and no wheels. Shorts or skirts/dresses cannot be shorter than 4" above the knee unless leggings or tights are worn underneath.

Students who come to school without the appropriate dress code items will call home for parents/guardians to bring them the correct clothing, OR the student can change into the clothing items we have at the school. If your child borrows our clothing please return them to the school - they will have BRIDGE labeled on the clothing item.

We do NOT sell Bridge shirts at the school; however, we have a handful of zippered hoodies for purchase. These are $25 each. You can purchase these after the first day of school. Our next Bridge Logo shirt sale will be in October.

DRESS CODE SPECIFICATIONS

On the first day of school, drop off is 8:00 - 9:00. This will allow parents to either drop kids at the curb, or come into the school, get the child situated and take the requisite picture "First Day of School" picture.

Our Back to School Open House is Thursday, August 11, 3:00 - 7:00 pm. This is the time for you and your kiddos to tour the school, meet their teachers, run around on our new playground turf and visit the book fair in the library.

In addition you will use this time to drop off school supplies (link further below), drop off your child's Summer Visible Learning Challenge and "shop" the clothing exchange table in the lobby.

FAMILY HANDBOOK

The Family Handbook contains a lot of great information about the procedures at Bridge. Please take a moment to look it over so you are familiar with Birthday Treats (can't bring them), Toys at School (school will not help take care of them), Medication at School (must have form from Dr.), etc.

Our school supply list is just ONE list for all students. These supplies are considered a donation and students are NOT required to provide them to attend school. All supplies go into our community supply closet and teachers take the supplies as needed. As such, please don't not label any supplies with your child's name as we cannot ensure your child gets the specific items you purchased just for them.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

We will have tables set up in the front foyer for you to bring the school-code clothing you wish to donate. Please fold the clothing nicely and place on the tables for the appropriate labeled sizes. Parents can take the items off the table that they need for their children. This is a great way to "shop" for school clothes without spending any money and a great way to get rid of your child's outgrown school clothes without having to send them to a donation center or a landfill.

Aspire is the student information system we use at Bridge. This is the place where you add or modify your emergency contacts, check your child's lunch balance, look over their absences and find the name and contact information for your child's teacher.

Please take a moment to ensure ALL your child's emergency contacts are added and they have a little green arrow next to their name indicating they are allowed to check out your child from school.

STUDENT DATA PAGE

Students can only be checked out of school by an individual listed in their Aspire account that has a GREEN ARROW next to their name. See above for information on accessing Aspire.

When an individual is checking your student out of school, including parents, we will ask for picture ID. Please be prepared and make sure the person checking your child out also understands this rule. The rule is made to keep your kids safe, not because our office staff are unreasonable.

You can find the name of your child's teacher by logging into Aspire (see information above) or by stopping by the school and looking at the class lists posted on the front doors.

Our morning supervision program and BASE are both FREE to all students. Morning supervision begins on the second day of school, August 17, and BASE begins on the first day of school, Tuesday, August 16.

Morning Supervision - drop off (after the first day of school) is 7:30 - 8:25 am. School begins promptly at 8:30 am. Students are NOT allowed to play outside or run around the school in the morning. In the morning, students come into the school and go to the gym for breakfast (served 7:45 - 8:15) and then go to their designated place. We have an adult door greeter each morning who will help kids find where they need to go in the morning. Additionally, on the first day of school teachers will share this information with students and show them where the student goes in the morning.

BASE - BASE is held M - TH, 3:30 - 4:30 pm. It is an enrichment program that extends the school day by providing students with engaging academic activities. Students who attend BASE also receive FREE dinner at 4:15 pm.

Each day students have a different focus area:

Monday - Literacy or Writing

Tuesday - STEM (science, technology, engineering or math)

Wednesday - Fine Arts or Movement

Thursday - Natural World - History - Holidays

Students MUST be signed up to attend BASE. Our teachers use the list to help determine which students remain at school and which students need to go outside and wait for their pick up.

BASE SIGN UP

Sadly, breakfast and lunch are no longer free for all students. This was a decision made by government officials, not Bridge. Dinner, provided during BASE, is FREE for all students who attend BASE. The baseline for students to qualify for FREE/Reduced lunch as been adjusted and is currently at 185% of the poverty line. We highly encourage every single family to complete the application even if you may not think you are eligible.

Bridge has an AMAZING lunch team, LunchPro, which is supervised by Chef Dave and our site manager, Jodi. Our meals are FABULOUS and include a fresh fruit/salad bar every single day for lunch from which students can take as much or little as they wish.

The application for FREE/Reduced meals is completed through Aspire. We will have someone from our lunch team available during Back to School Night to help you with this process. They will be in the Middle KIVA on the main floor.

FFVP - Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Bridge was awarded a grant to provide students fresh fruit and vegetables for snack each day, M-TH. This program is designed to give students the chance to try new, fresh and healthy foods that they may not otherwise have a chance to try. Our kids LOVE this program and find all kinds of yummy things and sometimes, something they think is "yucky".

Each week students attend a Visible Learning class and learn about a learner disposition. These dispositions are traits of a good learner. Our mission is to help develop student who take accountability and ownership of their learning. These dispositions are a great way for students to achieve this goal.

During the first week of school, students will have an overview of all the dispositions. Starting week #2, students will focus on a specific disposition. They will learn how that disposition will help them become a good learner. Information about the dispositions will also be included in the weekly newsletter so you can use the same language at home to help encourage the trait.
