A Reading From The Gospel for Sunday, June 18, 2023
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 9:36-10:1, 5-8abc
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness.
These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of Samaritians, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, proclaim the good news, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons.”
Amen

Japan Homestay Exchange 2025
My name is Elaan and I have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know some of you.
I am reaching out to you, as you can see from the subject line, I am the Chair and Director of the Edmonton and Area Yamate Exchange Program. In this role, I coordinate the 2-week homestay exchange with Japanese students coming to Edmonton and then the Edmonton and area students traveling back to Japan. This exchange, which happens every three years, moves between Edmonton, Calgary, and Red Deer and has been running since 1983. I was the co-chair from 2010-2018 and the Chair and Director from 2018 to the present. Of course, the Pandemic has thrown off the order of the exchange and this year, Calgary is hosting and traveling, Red Deer in 2024 and Edmonton in 2025. (We were the last group to host/travel in 2019).
The reason I'm reaching out to your schools, is your schools are feeders to ABJ. By the time the exchange occurs, your current Gr. 7 & 8 students will be in Gr. 9 & 10 and we take Gr. 9-12 on this exchange.
I will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday, June 21, 6:00 pm at ABJ for students and their parents, to come and learn about the exchange. There is no need for any commitment at this time. Would you be able to share this in your S'More?
If families do not wish to attend but have questions, they can reach me via the email edmontonyamate2025@gmail.com.
Thanks in advance and if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
Best,
--
