Principal's Newsletter
From the Desk of Russ Booth
April 21st, 2024
I hope everyone has had a wonderful and relaxing April break! As we prepare to return to school tomorrow there are a few things I would like to highlight.
Our Performing Arts department had a fantastic trip to Disney this past week! The kids had a great time and learned a lot from the workshops they attended. There are several pictures below of the trip, so be sure to take a look.
We have recently updated the times our doors will open each morning. Please be sure to note the following changes below:
7:00am - Door 1 (main door), Door 5 (by the auditorium), Door 9 (athletic wing)
7:10am - Door 21 (back parking lot/Memorial Field parking), Door 24 (Front of building by SRO/Bentley's office)
Door 24 is a new option for students getting off the bus after 7:10am, but please be sure students are not pulling on the door if it is locked prior to 7:10am.
Prior to the break we have been experiencing an increase in the number of students coming in late to school and not reporting to the Welcome Window to sign in tardy. Beginning Monday, April 21st any student who is not in their classroom as of the 7:25am late bell will be asked to report to the main lobby and sign in tardy for the day. Please be sure to talk to your student about getting into the building and to their first period class prior to 7:25am so they are not marked tardy for the day.
We will be sending out a communication to families and students clarifying after school expectations to ensure all MHS students are able to utilize the building after normal school hours for things such as extra help and the library. Students will be reminded of the following expectations:
- If they are staying after school they must be with an adult or in a space with adult supervision (library)
- Students staying after school are expected to be working productively either with an adult or in the presence of an adult.
- Students staying after school can wait in the lobby for a ride. Students should sit at the tables or couches when waiting for a ride. Students should not be waiting in the vestibule or letting other students back in the building while waiting for a ride.
- Students are expected to maintain a respectful environment after school while waiting for a ride. Students using offensive or disrespectful language will be asked to leave the building immediately.
The previous three pieces of information will be sent to all families and students in an email as well, but families are asked to talk to their student about the expectations to ensure we have a successful end of the school year.
The newsletter has many updates to old information below, along with a few new pieces of information. Please be sure to take a look and read through the information below, and I hope everyone enjoys the remainder of their break.

Mansfield High School students participated in the 55th Hockomock Model Senate at Foxborough High School on April 9th & 10th. Students from Oliver Ames, Foxboro, Mansfield, and North Attleboro participated. The Hockomock Model Senate was started by local educators in 1968 to promote civic engagement. Over 40 bills were debated in committees on the first day and the full senate debated 12 bills on the second day.
Active Minds Attends Kyle Cares Conference
Mansfield High School's Active Minds chapter participated in the KyleCares Conference held at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, April 4th. The conference is a pivotal gathering addressing mental health issues within student communities. The event saw a warm welcome from Massachusetts Secretary of Education, Patrick Tutwiler, PhD. Frank Warren, the visionary behind PostSecret.com and author of The World of PostSecret, delivered the keynote address. Attendees engaged in breakout sessions covering diverse mental health topics and later regrouped to share insights from their sessions. The conference also featured a special appearance by New England Patriots player Josh Uche, who emphasized the significance of mental health in professional sports. The Active Minds chapter at MHS extends gratitude to the Kyle Johnson Foundation and the Patriots Foundation for hosting this impactful event.
