Happy Monday Hornets!
Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a restful weekend and are feeling ready for Conference Week! It's always a little easier to come back to school after a big Seahawks win, especially when it's over those pesky 49ers.
Congratulations to all of our fall athletes, coaches, and game crews for a great season of athletics. Even after our move to 3A, our individual athletes and our teams continue to be competitive and stand out in our league. Everyone take a week or so off and get ready to compete in the winter season.
The high school will be hosting Fall Conferences starting on Thursday, November 21 @ 12:00 PM. Details are listed below. There are a number of options available and we hope to see you next week.
On Thursday at 6 PM, Enumclaw High School will host a FAFSA Workshop for students and families who are interested in learning the ins and outs of funding college. Mary Gerhardstein, Assistant Director of Admissions at Pacific Lutheran University, will be here to discuss financing college. Come check out the presentation AND attend some conferences.
Article of the Week - This week I have included an article from the National Education Association (NEA) on teens and vaping. According to the article approximately 5.9% of middle and high schoolers use vaping devices or e-cigarettes. At EHS, 5.9% would be 77 students. We are certainly are seeing the impacts of students using tobacco or cannabis via these devices. Recently we have even tried to limit our open bathrooms to limit student use at school. This week we plan to open a few additional bathrooms to limit bathroom lines, but we remain concerned about the proliferation of students vaping in our bathrooms. I encourage you to read the article and discuss the impacts of vaping with students.
That's all for now. I hope you all have a great week!
Rod Merrell
