Kindergarten Newsletter 2023-2024
Literacy
Reading: Students will be exposed to a biography and informational text. We will use text features to gain information. We will also identify the author's purpose for writing a text.
Writing: During writing, we will be drafting, revising, editing, and sharing a narrative.
Foundational Skills: Students will focus on concepts of a sentence. We will notice how sentences start with an uppercase letter and end with a punctuation mark. Our focus is also on beginning blends( cl- fl-) and ending blends (-st -nd).
High Frequency Word List: HFW List Introduced by Module
Math
During the next few weeks, we will be in Unit 5 for math learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We will look closely at the following 2D shapes and identify their attributes (how many sides, how many corners, etc) : square, circle, triangle, rectangle.
We will also explore the following 3D shapes with their attributes: sphere, cylinder, cube, and cone. We will be identifying 3D shapes from our real world (soda cans= cylinder, balls= sphere, etc.)

Important Notes
1. Snack:
We ask that you please send a DRY snack with your child each day. We often are doing work while eating snack, therefore it is helpful that they have a dry snack so things do not spill on their work. This means no yogurt, jello, applesauce, milk products, etc.
2. Absences:
If your child is going to be absent, please email diana.ruiz@pisd.edu and your teacher to let us know he/she will be out. When your child returns to school, please send in a handwritten note that includes the following: child's first and last name; date of absence; reason for absence; your name and signature, with a phone number.
3. PTA:
Join our PTA! Your participation in our parent teacher organization is as important as ever!
