TCS News to Know
For the Week of November 25, 2024
Dear Families,
This week is Thanksgiving! More than just a reason to have turkey, watch football, and get a jump start on one's Christmas shopping, Thanksgiving is a holiday about showing gratitude. According to Webster's Dictionary, gratitude is "an overwhelming feeling of appreciation and thankfulness, and the desire to return kindness to others." Students in both the elementary and MS/HS buildings have been given daily gratitude challenges throughout the month to help them focus on things they are grateful for this November. Sometimes, we just need a little reminder to focus on the things that are good! As you go into this long weekend, we encourage you to do the same. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
McTeacher Night Fun
On Tuesday, November 19th, the Tekonsha McDonald's hosted McTeacher Night for Tekonsha Community Schools. From 4:30 - 7 pm, McDonald's donated back 15% of all sales (in lobby, drive-thru and app) back to the school! Staff members enjoyed "working" at McDonald's, which consisted of greeting customers, carrying trays, and wiping down tables! We appreciate all of the families and community members that stopped by to support us either in the dining room or by going through the drive-thru! Nearly $350 was raised. These funds will be used to support our Free Store.
Pajama Day for Donations!
T-Town Little Bots
The Tekonsha Elementary T-Town Little Bots LEGO Robotics team had their competition on Saturday, November 23 at Lakeview Middle School. The students presented their project to judges and participated in four different rotations throughout the morning, including a STEM station where they made a marble roller coaster, watching a Lakeview HS robot demonstration, participating in a LEGO Landscape creation, and then the judging rotation. At the end of the program, the team was awarded the Model Team Award! Thank you to coaches Stacie Lindsey and Tara Mack for coordinating this for our students. Donations made to Tekonsha Robotics helped to pay for costs associated with the program!
MSP Visit
Michigan State Police Trooper Zoe Feighner gave a great informational presentation on bullying to our Tekonsha Middle School students on Thursday, November 21. She spent a lot of time explaining to the students what bullying is, what cyberbullying is, and how they can play the most important role in stopping it by following the golden rule to "Treat others the way that you want to be treated."

Santa Claus for Schools is Starting!
Santa Claus for Schools is a charitable campaign that was started several years ago. Often teachers find that they are in need of “extra” things for their classroom, yet they know that there is not enough general budget money to spend on them. The teachers know that the students would benefit from these purchases, but do not order them in an attempt to save money for the school. At the same time, community members often feel they want to do something to help the schools, but they want to “see” something for their money. This campaign is an attempt to allow people in the community to see their donations go directly to work by purchasing items for classrooms.
In the past, this has been a very successful campaign. We are excited about the opportunity to continue this unique community tradition again this year. We will post the teachers’ “wish list” in the Tekonsha IDEA each week from November 29th through December 30th. The list will also be available each week in the newsletter beginning next Monday!
If you would like to make a general monetary contribution to the program, or if you would like to donate to purchase a specific item on the list, please contact Trisha Blashfield at 517-767-4121 ext 100 or by email at tblashfield@tekonsha.k12.mi.us. Checks should be made out to:
Tekonsha Community Schools and sent to 245 S Elm Street, Tekonsha, MI 49092.
We sincerely appreciate any donation, small or large, that we receive. Our students benefit greatly from your generosity!
